Thanks to T. for passing on Coffee Lover? Bodum French Press / Bialetti Espresso Maker / Grinder – $35:

“I should have known better. I love the smell of coffee but, in the end, somehow it always ends up leaving a bitter aftertaste. She was (and still is) a coffee drinker and I drink diet soda. She was (and still is) a demanding coffee drinker. Demanding that her coffee be rich and flavorful and NOT instant. No Folgers, Maxwell House nor Mr. Coffee for her. In her place she has some $$$$ superautomatic machine that takes a degree in rocket science and the ability to think in Italian to coax out a cup of joe with sufficient “crema”. I couldn’t take it anymore, her roasted arabica ways behind the beautiful smile that I truly loved. She couldn’t take my swigging Coke Zero straight from 2 litre bottles. We called it quits and I’m left with some remnants of her coffee culture. I think I still have beans in the freezer! I think a barista from some non-chain coffee place is making hot brew with her now. (more…)

2300 Wisconsin Ave, NW

Oof. Thanks Mark (and everyone else) for letting me know:

“Just learned the Starbucks at 2300 Wisconsin Ave NW is closing for good, in March, what a shame, great people watching.” (more…)

What does it all mean? Let me tell you what it all means. Nothing. It means nothing. In the wise words of Gorgias:

“Nothing exists; Even if something exists, nothing can be known about it; and Even if something can be known about it, knowledge about it can’t be communicated to others. Even if it can be communicated, it cannot be understood.”

Thanks to Will for sending:

“Starbucks Dupont south is closing on December 30th.”

What the hell – first one of the many Comfort One closes and now one of the many Starbucks is closing. Dark days in Dupont indeed.

Now hold on just a second – a liquor license application has just been applied for a Tokyo Pearl at 1301 Connecticut Avenue, NW: (more…)

1120 G Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to make sure that you had seen the GoFundMe campaign set up by Jessica Escobar, who owns Sip of Seattle in Northwest DC.

As bigger coffee shops have moved into the area and rents continue to rise, Jessica is being forced to leave behind the shop that many have loved for over 22 years.

You can learn more about the fundraiser here and below: (more…)

1120 G Street, NW

Thanks to Mark for sending from WUSA9:

“Sip of Seattle will be closing their doors for good on Friday, December 14th. The coffee shop has been in business for more than two decades.”

Oof. Just last September we spoke about some urgently needed love for some of “the nicest people ever.”

Sip of Seattle’s Facebook says:

“Sip of Seattle is a family run Coffee Stop that will service all your Java needs. Whether its a small cup of drip or an iced grande half soy caramel mocha latte, we pride ourselves on being able to provide our customers with a drink they can truly enjoy. Since 1996, the Escobar family has been serving its customers the best coffee in DC.”

14th and U Street, NW
