Ed. Note: Yesterday we spoke about Starbucks closing 7pm today at 21st and P St, NW, 77H and 9th and G St, NW.
Thanks to Mark for sending us the update on the Glover Park Starbucks closure.
“Glover Park Starbucks last day now officially March 30th, huge loss to the neighborhood , no replacement as of yet.”
As for the replacement, last week a liquor license placard was posted there that said:
“New Class “C” Restaurant serving light American food and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Total Occupancy Load of 100 with seating for 50. Summer Garden with 50 seats.”
However somebody did this: (more…)

21st and P Street, NW
Scuttlebutt confirmed, thanks to Andrea for sending – “The Starbucks at 21st and P St NW is also closing this Friday.” Also closing Friday 77H and 9th and G St, NW.

89 H Street, NW
Where the Walmart is, in the neighborhood we’re always fighting about – NoMa seemed to be the consensus at the last discussion? Anyway, we heard they were closing but didn’t know when – Friday at 7pm:

Last week the rumor that the Starbucks at 21st and P is closing. This follows the closure of another Starbucks in Dupont at 1301 Connecticut Avenue, NW as well as the coming closure of one in Glover Park next month and the one on 77 H Street, NW.
And now Robin reports:
“Just saw a Starbucks location is closing (near Chinatown). Curious if you’ve heard any rumblings as to why or what’s going in its place? It’s always crowded when I’m there…”

A reader shares some scuttlebutt: “I heard a rumor that the Starbucks at 21st and P is closing at the end of the the month.”
If true this will follow the closure of another Starbucks in Dupont at 1301 Connecticut Avenue, NW as well as the coming closure of one in Glover Park next month.

4850 Massachusetts Ave, NW
First a Pizzeria Paradiso and now a Compass Coffee opens next door in Spring Valley. Thanks to Andrew for sending: “Just walked by and saw people inside!”

4400 Georgia Ave, NW at Webster
Thanks to Erin for sending:
“Uneeda Market on Webster and Georgia Avenue looks to be transforming into a new coffee shop. Could be a promising new option for the neighborhood.”
Updates as Buna Coffeehouse gets closer to opening.

Holy smokes – First Cup Cafe (formerly formerly known as Breakwell’s) closed!??! There was a time this would’ve been big news. And so it goes.
Back in 2009 Simon said about First Cup Cafe: (more…)

Thanks to T. for passing on Coffee Lover? Bodum French Press / Bialetti Espresso Maker / Grinder – $35:
“I should have known better. I love the smell of coffee but, in the end, somehow it always ends up leaving a bitter aftertaste. She was (and still is) a coffee drinker and I drink diet soda. She was (and still is) a demanding coffee drinker. Demanding that her coffee be rich and flavorful and NOT instant. No Folgers, Maxwell House nor Mr. Coffee for her. In her place she has some $$$$ superautomatic machine that takes a degree in rocket science and the ability to think in Italian to coax out a cup of joe with sufficient “crema”. I couldn’t take it anymore, her roasted arabica ways behind the beautiful smile that I truly loved. She couldn’t take my swigging Coke Zero straight from 2 litre bottles. We called it quits and I’m left with some remnants of her coffee culture. I think I still have beans in the freezer! I think a barista from some non-chain coffee place is making hot brew with her now. (more…)
