“Dear PoPville,

As more and more of us are going back into the office full time it seems like Capital Bike Share (which I love!) hasn’t kept up with the city’s rush hour demand. In the past few weeks it’s become increasingly difficult to find an empty dock downtown in the morning or find a bike in Shaw in the mornings. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have a question for the community. I’m looking for a good place to buy a used bike. I’m not a bike expert,, I just need a solid bike to get around town. Preferably at a decent price, good condition, and not the product of theft. Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,

This is a warning for bikers riding near New Hampshire Avenue, 16th & U Streets NW. My husband wiped out on his bike yesterday due to the construction (they have excavated the road and it suddenly drops 6 inches). (more…)

Thanks to Ketti for sharing. Unfortunately the link in the poster is not currently active but I did come across this interesting historical tidbit that I never knew:

“Hains Point is named for the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Peter Conover Hains, the engineer who designed the Tidal Basin. Here, the Potomac River, Washington Channel, and Anacostia River all converge.”

Will post again on April 19th when more info on the designs are released.

Thanks to Walter for sending: “looks like NPS put out some signs to warn about Turkeys on the ART.”

Ed. Note: In November 2021 a reader recounted another incident on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail near the aquatic gardens. More recently in February a reader recounted an unprovoked attack “had to get a tetanus shot and antibiotics”. In response to that post I received multiple messages about similar incidents.

“Dear PoPville,

I was taking a Capital Bikeshare last night when my phone died. When I got to the dock I noticed that the light didn’t turn green, but flashed red, yellow, green. I left it anyway because I feel like the dock sometimes doesn’t accept a bike for any number of reasons and I couldn’t get it back out.

On my way home I went to take a bike again with my bike key, but couldn’t unlock any bikes. (more…)

Thanks to Sylvia for sending from Logan Circle: “I’ve never seen anything like this before. What the heck is it? Looks like a bicycle rickshaw”

“Dear PoPville,

After being out of town for a couple weeks I was so thrilled to see that pylons have been installed on SB 11th @ the NW corner of Lincoln Park, dividing the traffic pattern for those turning left from E Cap in the right hand and left hand left turn lanes. I remember a few months back, a poster wrote in about a traffic ticket for “cutting a police car off” when she was in the left most left turn lane (which directs drivers either southbound on 11th or westbound on North Carolina) and correctly went straight down 11th whereas the officer was in the right most left hand lane which directs drivers westbound on Mass or E Capitol. I drive this route really frequently and almost without fail someone in the right most left turn lane will cross over into my lane (going south on 11th). (more…)
