Thought I’d give a heads up to residents living in the Adams Morgan area that bike thefts have been happening.

From what we could figure out, someone climbed over the locked back gate with a busted up wooden ladder at around 4am on Friday, August 12th. The individual used the ladder to climb up and onto our balcony, stole my mounted bicycle, climbed back down the ladder and left leaving behind some rope and this ladder at the scene. Which absolutely creeps me out because this was definitely premeditated. (more…)

“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality involving a bicyclist that occurred on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the intersection of 21st Street and I Street, Northwest.

The preliminary investigation revealed, at approximately 8:09 am, a driver operating a Mack truck was traveling southbound in the 900 block of 21st Street, NW, which is a one-way travel lane. A bicyclist was also traveling southbound in the same block and on the right side of the Mack truck. (more…)

“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality involving a bicyclist that occurred on Friday, July 15, 2022, at the intersection of 7th Street and Rhode Island Avenue, Northwest.

The preliminary investigation revealed, at approximately 2:31 a.m., a driver operating a Peterbilt dump truck was traveling northbound in the 1500 block of 7th Street, NW. A bicyclist was also northbound in the same block, but on the east sidewalk. At the intersection of 7th Street and Rhode Island Avenue, NW, the dump truck, with a green light, began to make a right hand turn onto Rhode Island Avenue. At the same time, the bicyclist entered into the crosswalk from the sidewalk and struck the passenger side of the dump truck. The bicyclist went underneath the truck and suffered significant injuries. (more…)

“The National Park Service has completed the Environmental Assessment for the future management of Beach Drive in Rock Creek Park.

To improve recreational opportunities, minimize impacts to natural and historic resources, and address the needs of people who drive and those who use non-motorized transportation, we are proposing to close the upper portion of Beach Drive NW to motorized vehicles from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day every year.
The NPS will hold a public meeting on this proposal on July 18 at 6:30pm. The public is invited to review the Environmental Assessment and share comments and questions through August 11.”

“Dear PoPville,

A new bike lane sprung up on Park Rd NW between Warder and Georgia. Lane markings aren’t done yet, but looks like Park Rd has become one way west-bound and the bike lane goes east. (more…)
