As if word of UNIQLO and Cava weren’t enough…Mary reports:
“Not sure what it is besides paper airplanes representing countries at the main hall of Union Station.”
Love it. If I had to guess I’d say the good people of Norway have something to do with it.
But seriously anyone hear who’s behind it?

“Dear PoPville,
Be on the lookout for tentacles emerging from the tops of D.C. traffic boxes and in public spaces throughout the city starting this Tuesday and continuing through the summer. Local street artist Theodore Carter will show his 5-foot tall sculpture made largely from recycled materials. (more…)

Thanks to Ruxandra for sending. What an awesome pattern!

hahaha thanks to Claire for sending from 12th and G NE.
If you spot a hawk or any other bird of prey or any interesting wildlife around town, lunching or otherwise, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted it to [email protected] and I’ll add it to the queue. Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

Congratulations to “Peeps on the Platform” by Shelly Layser. They took 26.61% of the poll before I had to shut it down early for some serious anomalies. Many online polling isn’t the best way to pick a winner after all. Next year I’ll put a panel together to pick the winners. Having said that – this entry kicks ass and is well deserving of their win. Having said that, I think all entries, particularly the nine finalists absolutely kicked ass. Shelly will be getting her dinner courtesy Carmine’s Family Style Italian Restaurant and all entrants will be reminded to come to our next happy hour in June for some PoPville swag. Thanks again to all for being good sports – sorry about the final poll craziness – and I can’t wait to see your entries next year!! STAY TUNED.

Wow. Did this turn out better than I expected. Holy cow. Of course, it made picking the finalists extremely difficult but I finally narrowed it down to nine. Now it’s your turn to pick the overall champion. The winners get taken out to dinner courtesy Carmine’s Family Style Italian Restaurant and drinks courtesy me. At first I was gonna give free t-shirts to the top three but I think I’ll just schedule a June happy hour and give free t-shirts to all who entered so stay tuned for that. So without further ado – here is the poll – which shall close at noon on Friday. We’re just a little neighborhood blog so please let’s be cool and use the honor system here: Please vote once and only once. Ed. Note: Of course you can tell your friends to vote for you but tell your friends to be cool too. Thanks to all who took the time to enter – your creations were amazing!
Without further ado:

“1. The Impeepment of the President
2. The Peeps as they were forced out of the Washington Post, jumping to almost certain doom until PoPville came to their rescue.”

No more new entries are being accepted though there are still a few in the queue that I’ll post this week. Then I will then pick 5-10 finalists that you guys will vote on next week. I will take the winners out to dinner (courtesy Carmine’s Family Style Italian Restaurant) and drinks (unless the high school kids win, then just dinner.)

“My Inauguration Brings All the Peeps to the Yard by K. Lorenzana and S. Byham
We wanted to highlight the difference in crowd size and attendee demographics between the 2009 and 2017 inaugurations. The 2009 side is filled with hope and change and tiny Uncle Joe posters. The 2017 side has more of a ‘peeps grab back’ vibe as president cheeto, with a tiny hand and long red tie, is sworn in.
The second pic is a peep’s eye view of 2017 – replete with MAGA hats and the original ‘T inserted in the P’ campaign logo.”
