Not my usual poll question but a reader has a bet on it so I must oblige:

“I have a friend who insists to me that there is no such thing as bad pizza. Needless to say, I disagree, and have had more than a few undercooked slices of tasteless pizza with way too much cheese and no flavor to speak of in my time. However, she is adamant that no matter how bad I would think the pizza was, she would still like it.

I don’t believe her, and to prove my point I bet her that I could find her some truly revolting pizza to try. The problem is that–having done my best to avoid eating bad pizza–I don’t actually know where to find the genuinely terrible stuff in the area. I’m sure if I went to every Plexiglass carryout in town I’d find a couple good specimens, but that’s an awfully tall order for one person.”

So what’s the worst pizza you’ve ever had in town?

A couple of weeks ago there was some discussion about where to go for some fun in the sun. Unfortunately for us DC residents, the closest beaches are still a couple hours drive away, making anything less than a full-day trip kind of not worthwhile. What DC does offer in terms of aquatic R&R is a great number of public pools. I can’t speak for them all, since I’ve only been to the one in Georgetown (3400 Volta Pl) but it wasn’t half bad and I’ve heard great things about Dupont (2500 N St).

What DC is lacking, however, is a water park. Now, some people think they are nasty (and I don’t know that I would disagree) but when I heard about one nearby in Gaithersburg, MD my brain immediately reverted to 10 years old and all I could think about were childhood days spent running wild at Splish-Splash (any Long Islanders out there will know what I’m talking about). So last weekend, Boyfriend, my friend Vicky, and I took the 30 minute drive out to Bohrer Park to see what we could find.

It turns out that the Water Park at Bohrer Park is actually just a pool with two big water slides, but let me tell you, it was a good time! I haven’t been on a waterslide in years, and once I got over the initial public-pool-bacteria-ick factor I was having a blast. We must have gone down the blue slide about 10 times each (the white one wasn’t as much fun). It literally shoots you through a 250 foot tube in about 5 seconds! Story continues after the jump. Dear PoP…

I’m half-Latvian and was raised bi-lingually and sort of multi-culturally. Well, it turns out that there is a sizable portion of Rock Creek Cemetery that is “the Latvian section.” It’s where a lot of the WWII-era Latvians who settled in the DC area are buried. From time to time a group of us Latvians get together and do a little maintenance of the graves in the Latvian section.

Anyway, so we’re out there working on Saturday and one of the men working with us feels something heavy under some leaves that are under a bush. It’s in a black bag and would have never been seen if it wasn’t for us cutting down the bush. He picks the bag up and finds a black Berretta handgun loaded with a full clip and the hammer cocked back ready to go.

The gun had a bit of fresh rust, due to the fact that the bag was broken and all of the rain we’ve had lately. Considering those factors, we deduced that the gun couldn’t have been hidden there for more than a few months. Likely someone either hid it there and lost it, or intended for it to never be found. The guy who found the gun, using the plastic bag and not touching the actual gun, placed it on top of a gravestone.

So, being a good citizen, I call 911 to report what we had found. And then, not surprisingly, things went downhill. Continues after the jump. (more…)

A basketball hoop above the garage. In the middle of the city! That’s awesome. I like how they set the net up to catch stray balls. Although I suspect if I was playing I’d still be running into the street quite frequently to retrieve many of my shots.
