Oh yeah this one is dope sky. That’s right, I said it. Dope sky.

Alright it’s the little red thing hanging from the porch that got my attention.

I’ve never seen a row that looks like this anywhere else in the city. This row is located on 13th Street just north of Cardozo high school. Does this style have a particular name?

I understand not wanting to get your ladders stolen but doesn’t this effectively ruin your backyard? It looks like a cage. Terrible.

I just got word that Chix on 11th Street just north of U has received their patio license for outdoor seating. So starting late this week you’ll be able to eat your chicken and drink your beer and wine outdoors. This is great news. More reasons why 11th Street is the new best street in the city. And they also have happy hour!

This Saturday (August 2th) will be DC’s 9th Annual Dog Days Sidewalk Sale where they will have happy hour food and drink specials from 12:30 to 5:30 and an outdoor jewelry sale by three great local artists: Marcela Villanueva, Claudia Carpio and Carla Carpio.

Back in January we had a coolest pet in Petworth contest. I’ve recently been approached to start up a new contest including all the PoP neighborhoods – Petworth (if you didn’t enter last time), Columbia Heights, U Street, Logan Circle, Shaw, Mt. Pleasant, hell wherever you live. So without further ado the first entry is “Kilo” from Park View.

You can send your photos to [email protected] for the next two weeks and I’ll pick the finalists and you guys will pick the winner with the fancy new poll feature. Good luck.

I thought this one was an interesting one because it looks like it might be a fixer upper. It is located at 743 Quebec Place, NW. The flier says sold “Strictly As is, 6 bedrooms, 3 full baths, two decks, original hardwood floors, original wood details, skylight, bay window, parking…”.

The price – $499,000. Sounds a bit ambitious to me. Good deal or not?

“I was just wondering if you could do a post about sexual harassment on the streets? Walking between Petworth and CH and back Saturday garnered me no less than 9 comments, ranging from Que Puta to Hey White Girl come here! and so on and so forth. I don’t know if it’s the standard summer heat causing trouble or what, but I feel like tensions have been way up this week!”

Thanks,

Tired of being harassed.

From a follow up email that made me laugh (despite the serious topic at hand).

“I’ve been living in Petworth for over two years and aside from the time someone set a stolen car on fire outside of my kitchen window, this is probably the most drama I’ve had to date. ”

Dear Tired,
Unfortunately, I have recieved a number of emails along these lines over the past month or so. Ed. note: the emails I have received have discussed street harassment in Petworth, Columbia Heights and Shaw. It really aggravates me to know so many people have to deal with such unpleasantness. As I am very tough lad from the mean streets of Long Island I haven’t had to deal with this problem. But from talking to those who have dealt with it I can pass along what they’ve told me. Walk with authority but don’t look like you’re trying to pick a fight. Don’t slow down. If the comment is not outrageously rude you can smile, say thank you or nod but keep walking straight. If you feel threatened try and walk into a store or restaurant if you are along a busy street.  I’m afraid that’s all I have.

Cheers,

PoP
So for the ladies who have encountered this unpleasantness what advice can you offer? Is this type of behavior typically worse in the summer months?

Thanks again to a reader for the tip. The liquor application says the restaurant will be Cafe Salsa and is located at 1712 14th Street near Cork. The restaurant will feature “neuvo latino cuisine” and have an occupancy up to 150. Right on.
