From November 20 through December 27, Nationals Park will once again transform into a dazzling winter wonderland anchored by the World’s Largest Christmas Light Maze. Guests can expect breathtaking larger-than-life light sculptures, millions of twinkling lights, festive experiences around every corner, and an all-new holiday adventure: Night of the Nutcrackers.
This year’s maze experience invites guests into a world where the Nutcrackers — legendary guardians of Christmas magic — have mysteriously vanished, threatening to dim the spirit of the season itself. Throughout the journey, guests will search for eight missing Nutcrackers hidden throughout the maze, restoring holiday magic along the way through immersive scenes and dazzling light displays. Whether guests choose to follow the adventure or simply wander through the glowing spectacle, the experience is designed to spark wonder for all ages.

“The following is a statement from Councilmember Henderson on the closure of MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s Postpartum Maternity Unit:
“I am deeply concerned about MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s decision to close one of its two postpartum maternity units later this month, which will result in an overall reduction of available beds. Although hospital leadership has cited a lower patient census as the reasoning, Washington Hospital Center is still delivering more than a third of babies born in the District. The timing is especially unfortunate given that summer is a peak time for births. Furthermore, given its comprehensive antepartum care and its Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Washington Hospital Center is a vital lifeline for patients and providers managing high-risk pregnancies and preterm births across the region. I worry what a reduction in maternity beds will mean for women who need this level of critical care before and immediately after their child is born. Will they be prematurely discharged due to space constraints? Will they be forced to travel to hospitals further away? I fear that this decision will result in more patients being turned away or having no choice but to deliver in emergency rooms, which carries a higher risk of complications. (more…)

Great news from DCPL:
“DC Public Library will soon celebrate the reopening of two neighborhood libraries that have been closed for renovation and modernization. The Petworth Library will reopen on Sunday, Aug. 23 and the Southeast Library will reopen on Thursday, Sept. 10.
Arthur Capper TechExpress will close on Friday, July 31 so equipment and technology can be moved into the renovated building ahead of its reopening. This transition ensures that the new Southeast Library will be fully equipped and ready to welcome customers on opening day.”

Speaking of sandwiches – this is a reminder that Odd Provisions at 11th and Lamont Street, NW is amazing. And very well priced!! I got a ham and cheese sandwich on a pretzel bun for like $8.50 and it absolutely hit the spot. If you are sleeping on their sandwiches, like I was, WAKE UP – so, so good. Head straight to the deli counter in the back.
