I have a soft spot for frogs. This one is over in Bloomingdale and the cactus is pretty cool too:

I really liked the numbers on this door (from Columbia Heights) it gives me a bit of a 60s vibe. And as someone mentioned in the comments yesterday – Washington in the 60s on PBS was a phenomenal program. You should definitely catch a rerun if it keeps airing!

Every now and then I have to show some love for the bungalow.

From the the Recreation.gov Web site:

“You can submit a lottery application here for The 2009 National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony beginning at 12:01 AM (EST) Wednesday November 4, 2009 through midnight (EST) Friday November 6, 2009.

The 2009 National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony The ceremony is a time-honored holiday tradition which includes the illumination of the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse just south of the White House. Nationally known entertainers and the United States Marine Corps Band add to the celebratory evening in which the President is invited to bring a message of peace to the nation and the world. With the White House as the back drop, in what becomes the “Christmas Pathway of Peace”, the National Christmas Tree and 56 smaller trees – one for each state, five territories, and the District of Columbia – serve as the event focal point.”

Speaking of dogs, I thought this note from Wayan was very interesting. He writes:

“Dog Owners

He’s ripping off the dog owners who think their dog is getting an individual dog walk service. At 14 dogs at a time, this isn’t attention or exercise for your dog, just a factory-walk where the dog is pulled along with others. Small dogs could get hurt and he would not notice, or be able to stop it – he has 13 other dogs to try and control too.

Dog Supporters

With a 14-dog pack, this dog walker is exploiting those who support dogs and dog parks in Washington, DC. He is unable to control the dogs – three were off leash in this park – which will lead to complains about dogs running after people off-leash. And at 14 dogs, he is not possibly able to pick up all dog poop, leaving dog feces for others to step in and complain about.

Dog Walkers

If you enjoy making money walking dogs, dog walkers like this will have the city regulate or ban your industry. At 14 dogs, he cannot control this pack. All it takes is for one dog to get in a dog fight with another dog or a child, where he cannot control it because he’s trying to rein in the rest of the pack, and he (and you) will be front page news for all the wrong reasons.”

What is the maximum number of dogs a professional dog walker should be able to take out at once?

“Dear PoP,

Just wanted to let you know, there was a murder at the Woodner last night (apparently a woman was strangled), along with a murder 10 days ago in the same building.” Ed. Note: Commenters dispute any such crime occuring 10 days ago.

MPD sent out an email saying that they were investigating a “suspicious death” at the 3600 block of 16th Street on Monday night. They wrote:

“Members of the Third District were called to an apartment at 3636 16th St. NW for an unconscious person. An adult female was found dead of undetermined causes. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.”

I hadn’t heard any more details until the above email was sent in from a reader. I’ll be sure to update as more info becomes available from MPD.

Just got this update from NBC4:

“The co-owner of a popular U Street Corridor organic restaurant was found dead Monday night.

D.C. police received a report of an unconscious person at a home in the 3600 block of 16th Street NW at about 9 p.m., police said. They found 38-year-old Nora Amaya unconscious and not breathing.”

“Dear PoP,

His name is Manny, he is a Newfoundland/St Bernard mix (yes he is that big!) and is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. He was last seen at the park at 39th Street NW (Nov. 2) and ran into the woods leading into Rock Creek Park. He was wearing tags, but unfortunately they found the collar and tags, so he will have no identification now. He is very friendly, follows basic commands and is not aggressive at all. I have attached a photo of him. If anyone has seen him or knows of his whereabouts, please contact me at [email protected]. Thanks and I hope that the geographically diverse readership can help out!”
