Thanks to @FrenchTwistDC for the newest cupcake news. New York based Crumbs Bake Shop is coming to multiple DC area locations. Neighborhoods include Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, Cleveland Park & Rockville, MD. Exact locations have not been picked yet but as that info becomes available I’ll be sure to update. From their Web site:

Crumbs Bake Shop first opened its doors in March of 2003 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan by Mia & Jason Bauer. The menu is an irresistible blend of comfort-oriented classics and elegant baked goods, but the specialty of the house is the Crumbs Signature size cupcakes! With our more than 50 varieties baked fresh daily and a new cupcake of the week every Monday, each Crumbs Bake Shop is an oasis of wall to wall deliciousness. And now you can enjoy your favorite Crumbs treats in the comfort of your own home – just like Mom used to bake. Delivered straight to your front door, perfect for any occasion, without needing an occasion at all.

Thanks to a reader for the heads up. Sadly these incidents are all too common of late. From a WMATA press release:

The McPherson Square Metrorail station is closed temporarily while Metro Transit Police conduct an investigation into a fatality on the tracks. Free shuttle buses are taking customers around the incident at Federal Triangle, Metro Center and Farragut West Metrorail stations. Trains are going through the station without stopping to pick up or discharge customers. McPherson Square serves both the Blue and Orange Lines.

The preliminary police investigation indicates that at 8:35 p.m. (November 16) a man intentionally placed himself into the path of an oncoming Blue Line train that was headed in the direction of Franconia-Springfield Metrorail station. He was struck by the train and died of his injuries.

Police officials are continuing their investigation. The station is expected to reopen later tonight and will be open for regular service on Tuesday morning.

This is most definitely the most gigantic community garden I’ve come across on my walks. It’s located at 42nd Street and Edmund. It’s the Glover Park Community Garden.

I’m not sure the pictures quite do justice to just how large the area is (right off Glover Park).

While I like the door itself, this one is really all about the door knocker.

While I think this one is split into apartments I still love the building. It hits the trifecta for me – ivy, fire escape and big circular windows. I know it’s not everyone’s favorite, but I seriously dig it.

We first spoke about this spot back in July. On Sunday I took a look in the window and it looks all set to go. On their Web site (beware annoying background music) you can see some renderings of the DC spot if you go to “news” then “USA opening in Washington”. The space looks quite nice, though it looks like they’ll also be offering delivery…

I’ve recieved a number of emails forwarded from readers saying:

“Due to MPD activity the 1400 block of Columbia Rd. N.W. will be closed to traffic avoid the area.

Sent by DC HSEMA to e-mail, pagers, cell phones….powered by Cooper Notification RSAN”

More info as it becomes available.

A reader writes in about the incident and arrest in case others hadn’t heard yet. I’m not sure how I missed this one. I’m glad to hear an arrest was made:

“My wife and I just bought a house in Petworth, and in looking over the crime reports for the area we saw that there was a homicide at 4211 Second Street. Here is the Police Report and subsequent arrest report.”

Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the homicide of Kevin Massey who was fatally stabbed in the 4200 block of 2nd Street, NW, on November 6, 2009.  At approximately 5:30 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, 24-year-old Justin Lee Navarro was arrested in Southwest Washington by members from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.  Mr. Navarro of Northwest Washington has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed pursuant to an arrest warrant in the death of Kevin Massey.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009, officers from the Fourth District responded to the 4200 block of 2nd Street, NW, to investigate the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male inside of an apartment suffering from apparent multiple stab wounds.  The victim, identified as 31-year-old Kevin Massey, was subsequently pronounced dead on the scene by a representative from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia.
