Another beaut from 16th Street Heights. Nice wrap around porch and the shutters definitely work here.

While I like the door, be sure to check out the sculpture around it. Pretty sweet for a new construction, yeah?

“My favorite place in DC is my studio/house. Fischer my cat shares it with me and several other young non-political types in Columbia Heights/Parkview. I took this picture last spring on one of the first days I was able to leave my window open. From my studio I can see Georgia Avenue and a very heavily traveled alley. Its a short cut to Cluck-U Chicken and the H2 Bus Stop. In winter I draw my shades but the sounds of the Georgia Ave never leave with the seasons. Its bus after bus and an occasional ambulance. A couple months ago I went to visit my parents on their quiet farm in New Hampshire. I had to take a fist full of TylenolPMs to fall asleep.”
I got another great reader submitted Friday question of the day. It is very simple – why is it that most public transportation runs north to south but rarely can one find public transport that runs east to west? Brilliant question. Following is the full question from the reader:
“I have another transportation-related pet peeve. I’ve noticed that almost all the bus lines go north-south, just like the metro routes. The Georgia Ave bus follows almost the identical route as the Green line trains. There are also 14th and 16th St buses but nothing that connects the 16th to 18th St area to eastern Columbia Heights or Petworth. It’s a pain to get from Green Line locations like Petworth or Columbia Heights to places on the red line like Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan. Now that all of these restaurants and stores are opening in Columbia Heights, don’t we need an easier way to get between Green Line and Red Line destinations? I would love to see a bus line that links Dupont Circle to U Street and/or Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights and Petworth. It could be an extension of the very popular 42 bus – instead of stopping at Mt Pleasant St & Lamont, couldn’t it continue to Park Rd & 14th and then on to the Petworth metro? Or, is the 42 bus so full already that we need a new route that could follow a more eastern route, starting in Dupont and heading to Logan Circle before heading north. I think that with the opening of the Target there will be a LOT of demand from from Dupont area residents without cars wanting more easy access without having to deal with changing trains. Meanwhile it would be a boon for green line residents who don’t have easy public transportation access to Dupont and Adams Morgan.”
Hopefully you’ll have Monday off to recuperate! Details from the email:
“We are very lucky to have amongst us, Mr. Wayne Anderson – Beer Guru extraordinaire who will be flying in from Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons Colorado. Wayne will be on hand at Red Derby this Sunday [Feb. 17] from 7pm on (or until his jet-lag consumes him) to help your winter blues with some heartier stuff with the triumphant return of Old Chub in cans to our Winter Menu. We are really excited to get a chance to hang out with Wayne and sample the new Ten Fidy Stout, talk shop, and try to passive aggressively coerce him into sending more varieties of Oskar Blue’s beers to the east coast (break out your brain-washing shoes).”

Not only do we have Pupuserias and Taquerias but we also have Pupuseria y Taqueria trucks! I love it. I’ve never actually eaten at one but its mere existence makes me happy. Anyone eat at one of these trucks?

I see these all over many real estate signs. So what are they? Would they sway one in buying one house over another? I seem to recall a friend of mine saying that they’re not actually that useful. Like there is some sort of high deductible or something. Please educate me.

I love the fact that the signs are in both Spanish and English. But I’m not so sure about what the people are doing. Are they playing volleyball? Do people play a lot of volleyball in Columbia Heights? Do you guys like these welcome signs?
We also got pretty cool welcome signs in Petworth almost exactly a year ago.
