From an email I received:
“I am very happy to announce to you that we are finished with the make over project of one of our client’s restaurants and we are proud to invite you to its first big inauguration night! Come join the celebration on February, Thursday the 21 at 6:30pm.
In addition to the outstanding thin crust pizza, we look forward to sharing with you an improved ambiance!! The new interior, photography by a local artist, and good music are not to be missed. Moroni’s will also offer a selection of Italian wines, German and Salvadorian beers, and espresso beverages. Please come and join your friends and fellow Petworthians as we celebrate the reinvention of a true community restaurant.”

Ed. Note: Winner announced Friday!
“My favorite part of living in DC is that DC is a pedestrian city. I absolutely love living in a city where I walk to my grocery store, walk to the gym, watch as my neighborhood (columbia heights) transforms everyday, brick by brick, see all my neighbors out and about. Often I’ll walk around with no destination, just to check out new neighborhoods, see new sights. I’ll walk home from work or other
long distances, taking new routes each time to discover even more to love about the city I live in. (Anyone else see the marching band that practices late at night near Mt. Vernon Square?) These happenings keep me feeling alive and inspired.
I cannot imagine these travels without my ipod. Wilco is a go-to choice for calm beautiful nights. I wanted to put up a picture that correlates to these walks, the music, the mood, the invigorating feeling that comes from it all. U St is part of my daily routine, one of my favorite walks.”

It is my pleasure to present Volume Two ( here is Vol. One if you missed it.) of Intangible Tales by local blogger Intangible Arts. Intangible Arts’ assignment for Vol. Two was to demystify Georgia Avenue. Enjoy the journey.
Georgia Avenue has become DC’s new test lab for balanced development. It’s an ambitious task, and I’m not sure it’s ever been done right.
Tricky! How to balance the new money vs. the long-time residents that are the backbone of the neighborhood, in one strip of development? Other neighborhoods have tried this and failed miserably (creating national retail hell-holes with no local flavor), and that is why we watch our little street with great interest.
I heard from one new resident that Georgia Avenue can be a damned scary place. Maybe that’s true, but a little familiarity can go a long way. When we bought our place, we didn’t have anyone to point out the neighborhood gems, and so we’ve tried to find ’em ourselves. As a result, the strip isn’t nearly as damned-scary as some might think.
And that’s the real point here: A brief tour of my home stretch of Georgia Avenue, southward from the Petworth Metro to the top of Howard University. Due to space, it’s a short list. Story continues after the jump. (more…)
“My name is John Andrade, owner of Asylum in Adams Morgan and owner of what will be The Meridian Pint at 11th & Park. So much has been said about 3DG’s building design so I won’t get into that but I would like to touch on my ideas for my space. To clarify, it is not going to be a Belgian restaurant, it is going to be an American style restaurant and lounge with international flavors. The beer will be draft only to minimize environmental impact as well as noise impact from the dumping of bottles. With 20 beers on draft I intend to have a large selection with strong Belgian influences. Wine will also be in abundance and both beer and wine will come with pairing suggestions for an excellent dinner experience.
Since I am still in the planning stages I welcome any comments or suggestions that anyone may have. If there is something in particular you’d like to see me incorporate into the design or menu I’d be happy to consider it.”

I know in the past people have been pretty opposed to enclosed front porches. You know, it kind of hampers the whole neighborly thing. But if you had do it, this is a pretty classy one. And the mosquitoes can get pretty fierce… After the jump check out the nice house numbers. (more…)

Nice, your very own Washington Monument. It doesn’t get more patriotic than that, does it?

Just a little bit though.

A skylight on your porch? That is freaking awesome. Well done, well done.

And if you ever get in trouble you can rip it of the wall and club your attacker with it.
