You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in D.C.

Last reminder before we finally tip back some of these magnificent PoPville beers brewed by Atlas Brew Works – A Helles Lager, “Light and crisp, with notes of zesty citrus and lemongrass.”
So here’s the fun planned – the party kicks off at 6pm upstairs at Moreland’s Tavern (5501 14th Street, NW) besides beer there will be food available to order. But if you want to grab a bite before that works too – but try to make sure you arrive by 7pm because that’s when I sit down for a fun chat with Austin Graff when we will chat about 20 years of neighborhood blogging and neighborhoods in general and blogging in general and more! We will chat from 7-7:30 and then have some Q&A for 20/25 minutes. Then we recommence quaffing some PoPville beers! So if you just want to drink/hang out and don’t want to hear me pontificate – plan on coming around 8pm. I plan on staying on my feet until 10pm. With the beer being a crisp 4.9% ABV, I’m confident I can make it! Hope you can make it too, we will have fun celebrating two decades of the beautiful life!!

There will be TWO very special and very limited edition t-shirts available!
Of course there will be other libations to imbibe as well 😂
Dan Silverman/Prince of Petworth representing after a few…
AND for those who have been asking there will be 6-packs of the PoPville beer available for purchase to go at Moreland’s. At this event the beer will also be available on tap! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
There’s an update on the popville post from June 11 about the 1442 U Street, NW Sunoco site. According to the Washington Business Journal, it was purchased by a . . . wait for it . . . “Falls Church-based fuel distributor.”
So much for new retail or residential. Looks like another gas station.” (more…)

Are others noticing a redeployment of troops around town? Have you seen them in other neighborhoods where they have not already been spotted?
“Dear PoPville,
I regularly visit Dupont Circle and the National Mall.
Usually these areas are crawling with bored National Guard troops.
Maybe it’s my imagination but (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Was just wondering if you have heard anything about the gunshots or shooting in Columbia Heights on 8/23. At 10:42 pm, there were 20+ gunshots around 13th & Columbia Rd. Dozens of cops were searching the alley with a flashlight, then helicopters flew over for a while as well. (more…)

More sad news from Fat Pete’s Pizza & BBQ:
“This week is our last one, and before we close the doors, we’d love to see you one more time. ❤️
If Fat Pete’s has ever been your neighborhood spot, your go-to bar, your place for a celebration, or simply somewhere you shared a good night with good people, come back and raise one last glass with us. 🍻
We’ll see you Saturday, August 29 for our final weekend & farewell celebration.
Come by, bring a friend, share a story, and help us make these last few days unforgettable.
See you at the bar. ❤️🍻”
Ed. Note: I’m assuming this means Cleveland Park Bar and Grill will be closing upstairs as well but will update as I learn more.

On August 20th a reader wrote in “Is Everything OK at Bold Fork Books?” Sadly, everything is not OK.
Thanks to all who passed on from Bold Fork Books today:
“We’re writing to you with some very difficult news. After almost six joyful years, Bold Fork Books will be closing on September 30th.
This has been a brutal year for our bookstore—from the immovable realities of narrow margins, fixed expenses, and the creep of online retailers to the hits DC has taken from the federal government’s actions. Business has slowed, costs have gone up, and there’s no indication these trendlines will change anytime soon. Like so many of our fellow small businesses, we’ve tried to come up with solutions, but the fundamentals have become insurmountable. (more…)

From The Office of the Attorney General (OAG):
“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced a landmark multistate settlement with Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta). It is the largest state consumer protection settlement in history outside of the Big Tobacco settlements of the 1990s. The District will receive at least $90,395,940 and up to $129,356,762 to resolve the lawsuit the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) filed alleging that Meta has caused long-lasting psychological damage to children through its exploitative, addictive social media platforms, Instagram and Facebook, while at the same time deceiving the public about the risks associated with using those platforms. In addition, Meta must implement a sweeping set of safety features designed to protect children. The agreement resolves claims by 51 states and territories. (more…)
