“Dear PoPville,

On Thursday 4/27, at 4:32 AM, two gentlemen borrowed, and did not return, our building’s dumpster. It looks like they were moving a refrigerator up the alleyway between Holmead and 13th street, and trying to get the refrigerator into a vehicle parked on Monroe Street NW. This large, fancy fridge was hard to move and they did not have a handcart. So! they loaded it on our dumpster as a dolly.

We’ve scouted the area looking for a large orange dumpster, but with no success. Perhaps they drove off with the dumpster as well as the refrigerator in either a large pick-up or box truck. We captured some of the activity on our building security camera, and a neighbor who was woken up by the commotion and captured it on his iPhone.

Our bottom line is that we just want the dumpster back. No questions asked, (more…)

Stacee asks: “It’s on a few signs. I put in a ticket to 311 but haven’t heard any update. It’s dangerous for those not able to see exits until the last second. This is the southbound one, there is one that is northbound that is covering all the words.”

Ed. Note: Last week we noted that the Judiciary Square metro had fallen.

Thanks, I think, to Michael for sending from the Gallery Place metro Friday:

“This is in Gallery Place Metro Station on the Green/Yellow line platform. This one was completely unfazed as I walked right up to it. His buddy watched me from the sidelines.”

Thanks to C. and N. for sending: “Tigerellas last service was tonight (Friday.) Server said they decided to close Monday”

“It was short lived but did you hear Tigerella in Western Market had their last day of business last week.”

Tigerella wrote on their IG:

“THE TIGER IS ASLEEP. We are very proud of what we did and we could not have done it without our incredible team, the heart and soul of Tigerella.

The lack of workers returning to the offices in our part of downtown DC has made our business model unsustainable. We have decided to pass the torch to an operator who can make it succeed.

Thanks to all who came to Western Market to visit us and our neighbors. Please continue to support small businesses!”

Thanks to Carol for sharing this magnificent shot from Theodore Roosevelt Island.

If you spot a hawk, any interesting wildlife or celebrity skateboarder Tony Hawk, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted them to [email protected]. Thanks! Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

Thanks to Manny for sharing the news about Shanklin Hall after seeing our post earlier this morning.

Shanklin Hall’s website says:

“Over the last 3 years, you’ve inspired us to create one-of-a-kind events in diverse spaces throughout our beloved D.C. Thank you. Every experience brought us closer to you and our ultimate goal: opening a social club centered at the intersection of community, creativity, and wellness.

In November, we secured our brick-and-mortar location at 2325 18th Street NW (the historic Columbia Station) on the Adams Morgan Main Street. This will be our home, our flagship – a hub for collective elevation and cultural development. (more…)
