7:45am this morning from Jenna “Street currently blocked to get from Conn Ave to Columbia by the Hilton for police week activities.”

Jeremy writes: “I’ve seen less disruption to DC traffic from POTUS motorcades than there is today (think Xmas tree lighting caliber) thanks to #NationalPoliceWeek in DC. MPD & SS cars parked on corners w/lights on causing slowdowns, unpredictable road closures, bus-cades etc.”

Another reader writes:

“Do you have any insights on police week and why a bunch of police motorcycles need a motorcade that includes some buses too? I also don’t understand why (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Earlier this week, registration opened for DC Parks and Recreation summer programs. The usual list of fitness classes (strength training, Zumba, yoga, spinning, etc) typically available throughout the year were not available at all for this summer. “Dear PoPville,

I want to give a shoutout to newly open Halal Kingz!

I live near Halal Kingz and each time I’d walk by it, Mohammed would wave to me and ask me to try it sometime. I was walking to lunch and decided that I’d try Halal Kingz after reading the reviews. I thanked him, waited, and expected to like it like I like most falafel gyros.

Holy hell y’all. It is incredible. (more…)

Yesterday, SCSN was told that RVP is NOT willing to extend the vacate date or sign a community benefits agreement that guarantees community protections and minimizes harmful impact in Chinatown. (more…)

Save Chinatown Solidarity Network DC shared the sad news about Jackey Cafe back in late March:

“Jackey Cafe (611 H St. NW) is closing on April 4 — let’s show them some love! Facing rising rents and food costs, Jackey Cafe has made the difficult decision to shutter their doors after *40 years* of serving DC Chinatown.

And Tony writes “Tony Cheng’s all closed up still.” (more…)
