HRA is a mess right now. Just the latest example is below. They sent out the email below asking volunteers for help cleaning out dog kennels–something that they typically pay staff to do. Staff have been laid off, and others have left for better paying, less chaotic, jobs elsewhere. The animals are suffering because of it. I’ve flagged this for DC Council, as have others, but it seems like they are just trying to wait it out until Jan 1 when HRA’s contract expires–but these dogs are suffering right. now. I don’t know what to do except send this to someone who can amplify that this is a problem. (more…)


From DC Water:

Impacted neighborhoods include River Terrace, Mayfair, Eastland Gardens, Kenilworth, Deanwood, Central Northeast, and Anacostia Park.

he District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water) issued a Boil Water Advisory today for some customers that are or have had loss of water pressure in Northeast D.C. on Tuesday, December 3. The impact is affecting 2,787 customers and many of them are still without water at this time. This is a precautionary notice to customers in the impacted area to boil water that may be ingested due to water of unknown quality in this localized area of the system. When water service is restored, customers should not drink the water without boiling it first. This advisory will remain in place until follow-up testing confirms the water is safe to drink. This initiative, developed in alignment with legislation enacted by the DC Council in the 2023 Budget Support Act (Bill 50-2538), introduces a more streamlined curbside parking experience designed to manage congestion and improve curb availability.
