Multiple Shootings including a Homicide on Sherman and Two Police Involved Shootings, One after an armed carjacking of a FedEx van

“On December 24, 2014, around 2155 hours, Third District Officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Sherman Avenue, N.W, in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival on the scene, the officers discovered an adult male shot. The male shooting victim was pronounced on the scene. The lookout for the suspect is a Black male, 6’2 in height, wearing black pants and a black jacket.”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 2600 block of Sherman Avenue, Northwest.

On Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at approximately 9:55 pm, officers from the Third District responded to a call for the sound of gunshots in the 2600 block of Sherman Avenue, Northwest. Upon arrival, they located an adult male inside of the location suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and found no signs consistent with life. Members of The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner transported the decedent to their facility.

The decedent’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 800 block of Bladensburg Road, Northeast.

On Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at approximately 10:13 pm, officers from the Fifth District responded to a call for a shooting in the 800 block of Bladensburg Road, Northeast. An unconscious adult male suffering from a gunshot wound was located in the 1600 block of Maryland Avenue, Northeast. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 25-year-old Marquiz Anthony Robinson, of Centreville, Virginia.”

“The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a police involved shooting that occurred in the 1600 block of W Street, NE. Preliminary information indicates that on today’s date at 5:25 pm, officers from the Fifth District responded to a call for an armed carjacking of a FedEx van in the 1300 block of Adams Street, NE. Officers saw the vehicle and a brief pursuit ensued. The vehicle stopped in the rear alley of the 1600 block of W Street where the suspect discharged a firearm towards the pursuing officers. The officers returned fire striking the suspect. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the suspect to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect’s identity is being withheld until positive identification is made. He will be charged with Assault on a Police Officer while Armed and Armed Carjacking.

MPD officers sustained minor injuries. The investigation continues. Anyone who has information regarding this case should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”

“The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal police involved shooting that occurred in the 2800 block of Naylor Road, SE. Preliminary information indicates that on today’s date at 3:12 pm, officers from the Sixth District were attempting to contact an adult male who matched the description of a robbery suspect that had just occurred. The suspect fled, turned towards the pursuing officers and discharged a firearm at them. The officers returned fire striking the suspect. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the suspect to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The suspect’s identity is unknown, at this time. MPD officers did not sustain any injuries. The investigation continues. Anyone who has information regarding this case should call police at 202-727-9099.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
