“El Techo is Bringing the Heat All Year Long with Their Wintertime-Enclosed Rooftop and New Menus Launching 10/30”

From an email:

“To keep Washington warm during the winter months, Shaw rooftop El Techo is bringing back Selva, their wintertime rainforest-inspired look on October 30th. El Techo is enclosing the roof to keep the cold air out and the vacation vibes in by allowing those rooftop hangs signature of summer to continue all year long. This season, the roof features a retractable ceiling, designed by owner Louie Hankins himself, which can be open and closed to allow guests to chill out on the open-air roof on that inevitable 70-degree January day. The now-iconic-on-Instagram hanging wysteria will also make their triumphant return alongside hanging lanterns and baskets to add to the ambiance.

With the return of Selva comes new food items as well as a seasonal crop of cocktails. New dishes include a Smoked Brisket Taco ($4.89/each) featuring tender brisket smoked overnight, guacamole, queso fresco, cabbage and creamy chimichurri, a Carnitas Taco ($4.24/each) with slow-braised pork, grilled pineapple salsa, pickled red onion and queso fresco and Chile Rellenos ($15.99) stuffed with your choice of brisket or veggies and topped with red chili sauce and queso fresco. A Fried Rockfish Platter (2 lbs. for $42.99) featuring beer-battered wild caught rockfish served with fresh vegetables joins the roster of shareable entrees alongside El Techo’s beloved Seafood Paella and Latin American Stir Fry.

New cocktails get the fall treatment with the Cinnamon Old Fashioned ($12) featuring Old Overholt Rye, cinnamon syrup and angostura bitters, Pumpkin Spice (hot cocktail, $12) made with fresh pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cardamom and cream with your choice of tequila or mezcal and the Choco (hot cocktail, $12) with cacao, dark chocolate, cinnamon, sugar and milk served with your choice of tequila and mezcal. Last but certainly not least, Selva is serving their own take on nutella in drink form. Made in-house with coconut, hazelnuts, cacao, dark chocolate and milk, the to-die-for dessert-like warm drink can be served spiked ($12) or as a non-alcoholic option ($8).”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
