From owner Nic Makris:

“With the support of DCBrau the Blaguard (2003 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan) and Homestead (3911 Georgia Avenue, NW in Petworth) are donating $2 of every DCBrau pint sold to Race for Hope, a charity 5k here in DC to help fund brain tumor research.

Last year, only a few days prior to Homestead opening, the mother of Nic Makris (owner of The Blaguard and Homestead), passed away following a valiant 11-year fight with brain cancer. The months leading up to her passing, and months following, were incredibly difficult for Nic and his family, but their family is not alone. Everyone has been affected by cancer whether as a patient, family member or friend. We have the opportunity to fight back against this disease and Nic and his family have invited the public to come and support them in our fight against cancer!
The week-long fundraiser at the Blaguard and Homestead runs May 1st-May 6th. With the purchase of any DCBrau $2 gets donated to their Race for Hope team, Chris’s Cronies, in honor of Nic’s mother, Christine Makris. There will also be a fundraising event and DCBrau Collaboration tap takeover on May 6th, 2017 from 2-7pm at the Blaguard, and there will be a TON of raffle prizes, including gift cards, Nats/O’s tickets, sports memorabilia, a “Friday Night on the River” package, a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle, Port City Brewery tour for 12 and more! If you can’t make it by for a pint or to the fundraiser, but you’re still interested in supporting the event, please consider joining Chris’ Cronies and walking/running in the Race for Hope (May 7th) at Freedom Plaza. To join the team, or make a donation directly to their team, please visit www.braintumorcommunity.org/goto/chriscronies2017.

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
