“Here’s picture of a sharp-shinned hawk I took this week in my backyard in Brookland. It often visits my bird feeder in search of house sparrows.”

If you spot a hawk or other bird of prey around town, lunching or otherwise, please send a photo and an email where you spotted it to [email protected] Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

“It often visits my bird feeder in search of house sparrows” – Ha! Gives a new name/concept to a bird feeder…..

      Haha, and how true!

When are the bird lovers going to start getting mad about the hawks, the way they hate cats?

    • cate

yea, those hawk owners are so irresponsible letting their hawks OUTSIDE

      • wdc

Right, because every cat has an owner. Got to have someone to blame!

The difference is hawks are indigenous to the area, while feral cats are essentially an invasive species. But so are house sparrows, so all predators should go after them (and pigeons)!

I think liking hawks and being a bird lover is…consistent. Hawks being birds and all.
