From the little I can read on this, I really wonder what “conventions” at the Baltimore Sound Stage were child friendly and had children there? It doesn’t seem like that kind of venue – they don’t hold conventions right? Just confused.

    • Anonamom

Yeah, no conventions at Soundstage. It’s a club, and a pretty small one at that. But, from what I can make out, it looks like it says “Seen at Baltimore Soundstage for Fetish Night” which could be a club night, though I really don’t know to be sure.
What concerns me about things like this is that often time people are targeted as ‘pedophiles’ for being different from the norm but definitely not a pedophile. This serves the purpose of not on shaming the individuals doing nothing wrong, but also allows real pedophiles to be able to fly under the radar even more.

      • eggs

Ah I couldn’t make that part out. This is just really odd. Glad PoP blurred out faces and identifying items.

      • CPT_Doom

The Crucible is an adult club for those into BDSM, and Black Rose is a local heterosexual BDSM group. I don’t know specifics of any allegations, but do know some of the people involved in that group, and believe you have it right. As far as I know, Black Rose is scrupulous about limiting members & guests to their activities to those who are legally of age, and the group has been targeted before, but not like this.

I’m afraid this is about targeting those with more esoteric sexual interests and attacking them. If there were actual evidence of wrongdoing, one goes to the police, one doesn’t print up potentially defamatory fliers.

        • Anon

I think that makes sense – a bunch of pathetic ultra-prudes trying to slander those whose presumed sexual practices they don’t support. In this case, I’m guessing it’s bunch of really old ladies with nothing better to do than to spy on who’s going in and out of these clubs. Quite pathetic any way you cut it.

          • wdc

Hey! Don’t go painting all old ladies with that brush. Many of us are quite open minded.

          • Anon

            Sorry – #notalloldladies!

    • LCinDC

Part of the redacted text alleges “activities” were/are taking place at anime conventions. I live in the neighborhood and had no idea about the “private club” referenced at the top, which the website claims to be a BDSM and swingers club.

    • meh

I’m one of the folks that sent this in as these were all over my street. The flyer mentioned Otakon in particular, which is geared for all ages.

  • Eckington

Probably picked up 50-60 sheets this morning…very strange.

  • Anonymous

I don’t understand what this is or why it is being posted here.

    • You are not supposed to recline, take up multiple seats on metro, crowded or not, nor put your feet on the seats. I can’t be any more clear than that.

      • bruno

        Different post, Dan ;^)

      • Bloomy

        LOL’d

    • Anon

This is an outright smear and libel. The Crucible is a private BDSM club in DC that is relocating near Eckington. It has been open on and off for over 20 years. Black Rose is a BDSM education group, it is one of the oldest ones in the country, only the New York group is older. But they are by no means pedos, in fact anybody under the age of 18 is not permitted in the club or classes. They both stress consent between adults in play. These groups are about activities between consenting adults that are legal under DC law. Both of these organizations have been around for over two decades at this point. This is deeply concerning on a number of levels, but it is an attack very similar to the Comet Pizza conspiracy theory.

      • Anon

Thanks, this makes a lot of sense.

      • Ross

+1. BDSM, not to mention other fetishes that most of you would describe as far more disgusting, are not illegal in DC.

      • Thomasp

I’m a member of the club and never seen any wrong doing or anyone underage in the club. The club has been around for years and I don’t understand why people would put out such meSs to have it shut down over lies . Whoever is doing this must be mad that they couldn’t get a membership.

  • stacksp

They should contact law enforcement with their concerns

    • textdoc

Agreed. As CPT_Doom says above, “If there were actual evidence of wrongdoing, one goes to the police, one doesn’t print up potentially defamatory fliers.”

      • In The Know

The MPD regularly have officers attending events at the crucible. They are there to observe and ensure that there is no wrong doing going on. There is a perception of the BDSM community that they engage and allow in illegal acts such as pedophilia. This is very wrong, and the BDSM community is very welcoming of the police and these events. And who doesn’t love a man in uniform?

  • Tsar of Truxton

Fear not, I am sure NC is already sending some upstanding, gun-toting citizen to investigate this for us.

    • LittleBluePenguin

That’s exactly what I was thinking, Tsar – this seems like more bizarre hysteria of the Comet Ping-Pong ilk….granted, I can’t read nearly anything on the flyer, but it seems like if someone had a real, legitimate concern about a gang of pedophiles, they would go to the police and/or FBI or the Center for Missing and Exploited Children, something other than littering an area with flyers….

      • Anon

Anon mentioned that the club is moving to Eckington, so this seems like a smear campaign to garner neighborhood support against this club moving to the area.

        • meh

The club is already there, but there were definitely some disgruntled neighbors when it did move in this past year.

  • textdoc

This sounds a little like Pizzagate — “kidnapping and serial rape of small children”??
    .
Agreed with Anonamom — this sort of thing “allows real pedophiles to be able to fly under the radar even more.”

    • Anonamom

Pedophilia is sadly something that I have had the displeasure of coming across in my actual life. Most recently with a teacher’s assistant at my kids’ school, prior to that a person who was dating the mother of a child I am extremely close to, and decades ago now, an uncle by marriage. People who actually abuse children are far, far more likely to be sitting next to you at a little league game than to be spending their Friday night at an underground BDSM club. Parents would do better to fear the wolves in sheep’s clothing than by into crap like this for even one second. This is also why I never date(d) anyone without knowing their last name, and why parents actually should check up on the Sex Offender Registry from time to time. But doing that and being vigilant is completely different from slandering consenting adults quietly going about their business.

  • Near Northeast

The Crucible has been closed for years and is unlikely to re-open in the foreseeable future, if ever. Targeting it now sure seems like an odd choice.

    • daisy

it will reopen in the forseeable future

  • kinksville

Yeah, the Crucible moved from it’s old location in NoMA a while back and has not yet re-opened. In both locations they went through the neighborhood committee process, got permits, etc.

Both the Crucible and Black Rose have age restrictions (and check ID’s if necessary) to make sure that underage folks don’t attend parties/meetings.

  • Mojotron

    Begun the culture wars have.

  • jenna

What utter crap. Both the Crucible and Black Rose are upstanding organizations with only LEGAL AGE adults in attendance for any of their events. The police are well aware of them and show up at events all the time.

  • Anon

This is the second time these very same flyers have turned up. The first time was some months ago in Baltimore. There is no validity to it. As far as has been determined by investigation by appreciate authorities, none of the individuals pictured have any association with either the Crucible or Black Rose nor are they guilty of anything alleged in the flyers. Both organizations are long standing, legal, registered entities and operate completely within the laws. Both are visible to the public online
