No one has commented yet on the symbolism of a shady liquor store becoming a doggie daycare place?

    • stacksp

      What symbolism is that?

      • and good jobs, I hope

I don’t get the symbolism either, but this is clearly an example of gentrification.

        • textdoc

Yep — that was my thought (that it was a striking symbol of gentrification).

          • stacksp

Yeah. Figured that is where you were going. Out with the liquor stores, fast food carryouts and corner stores and in with doggie daycares, cycling shops, yoga and workout studios.

+1. I used to live near this block years ago. Between the condos, bars, and now the end of the liquor store/opening of a doggy daycare, it is basically unrecognizable.

    • jsauri

After the liquor store, you need some hair of the dog?

      • Lidia

        hahahaha good one. Thank you.

Once upon a time, Petworth Liquors was in Petworth. They were displaced by the metro construction. It wasn’t a bad place. Then it moved to Park View, and I think it changed hands.

  • BigD

I thought this was going to be a hot dog joint. Oh well.

    • LittleBluePenguin

So did I! I was wondering if it would fare ok positioned right next to small fry! Ha!

    • textdoc

Where was the scuttlebutt about a possible hot-dog joint?
      .
I suppose the place could still cater to wiener dogs… along with other small dogs in its small-dog room. 😉

  • say what

petworth liquor was a shit hole. I don;t know anyone who thought otherwise. I won’t miss the guys hanging out front, smoking weed, usually drunk already. Good riddance.

Agreed — my understanding was that Petworth Liquors was a pretty bad neighbor — there was significant neighborhood objection when it tried to move across the street.

  • J

Look forward to welcoming them to the neighborhood! Fingers crossed they can do a cute mural on the side of the building 🙂

Does Small Fry do well? I hope so! I’ve had a few really good lunches there but it never seems very crowded

  • Jess

That is the cutest dog I’ve ever seen!

    • Becca

It’s just WILD how cute she is!

  • sg7

District Dogs is fantastic! So glad they’re expanding and coming to my neighborhood.

  • PV

I walked by this morning. Signage is up and there was a person working inside. Seems to be open!
