Meh. Our local CVS on Georgia Ave has a security guard in it at all time. I wouldn’t launch a thinkpiece over it.

      lol +1

Considering how frequently I see private security guards every where in DC, the DC Metro Region, the Baltimore Region, I really agree with you here. Also, it’s definitely not a new thing at all. Perhaps they are just taking a page out of “Paul Blartt: Mall Cop” rather than trying to keep up with the Jones’ at Center City.

      haha!

Over the weekend It looked like Steve Alan had a broken window that they were fixing and had boarded up one door. Probably in response to that.

  • Philippe Lecheval

I guess they were having a hard time figuring out how to stylishly integrate those metal roll-up security doors on the exterior and bulletproof glass at the checkout counter.

Welcome to the third world DC. Public police are no longer effective so only places tat can afford private security have the privilege of safety.

“Won’t somebody think of the children!”
      .
No need for the histrionics. DC is similar to just about every other major city in the world for using private security.

I was disappointed to learn that the Tie Bar over there is just a temporary pop up, with a limited selection. I guess it’s tough to pay that level of rent selling $20 ties.

    • GBinCH

Has it closed? When I was in there before Christmas, I was speaking to the manager and he said they were trying to make it a permanent location. Apparently the pop-up was to test the waters and had been very successful/profitable.

      • jcm

Oh, that’d be great. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. If they stay, I hope they keep the same staff. They were very helpful.

I bought a tie there the day before New Years and they were pretty busy. It definitely looked like they were trying to expand – because they certainly needed it. The selection was awful

a bit off topic, but have le labo and Aesop opened down the block from steven alan?

    • not yet

    • LedroitTigah

I’d want a security guard too if I was that close the mess at GA Ave/7th and Florida. All this new development makes it very convenient for those days when you want to pick up some technical cashmere and a pcp laced loosie in the same trip.

  • citizen

As long as there are criminal elements, security is needed. Good blue collar work too, btw.

  • Thoma193

I live right by there and those security guards are frequently make rounds around both of the new developments there. They’ve also popped in to Compass Coffee to talk to talk to introduce themselves to staff/patrons and to let people know that they’re in the area 24 hours a day if anything comes up.

  • Reality

It’s giving someone a job and making neighbors and shoppers feel a little safer. I see no problem.
