Good deal, even if I would dispute that this apartment is at all “HANDSOME.” It’s not very visually appealing whatsoever, but a 1BR in this neighborhood for $1600 is a good deal. A lot of studios in this area go for that price.

I don’ t know if I should admit this because it should make people cry but between 1994-and end of 1999 I paid $500 a month for a nice size efficiency on the 200 block of Mass Av. NE – a block from Union Station.

I was just reading an article on the WSJ about a Zillow report that says “Renters can expect to pay 30.2% of their income on rent,” (30% is what seems to be what economists indicate is affordable). They didn’t do the numbers for DC in the article but Los Angeles renters could expect to pay 49% of their incomes in rent, San Francisco had renters paying 47%, and NYC it was 41%. When I looked at the Zillow report DC was 26.8%.

Agreed. I lived n a studio apartment across the street from eastern market from 1998-2003 for $525/month all utilities included. THey never raised the rent. I miss that place

I walk past this place all the time and am always struck by how dingy and depressing it looks. The location is great, but the building gives off a very creepy vibe. The unit looks exactly like what I would have expected it to based on the exterior.

+1 The comments are spot on about this building and the unit.

Great price for the location but those are some depressing photos of the place.

I’m guessing this building was renovated in the late 80s or early 90s and were average for the time. Fast forward 20 years the owners have moved on to new places and kept these as investments. So, overall owners don’t want to put much money into upgrades or upkeep.

So. Likely a reasonable price, since you cannot beat the location. But you gotta laugh at labeling this place “HANDSOME.”

It is cheap…I pay $1800 for a one bedroom down the street. But my apartment actually is “handsome” so I guess it depends what your values are.

I live across the street from this place. The people who live in this building are very nice. So your neighbors will be great. Also, this building is pet friendly.
