  • Smh.. seems like a shooting or armed robbery occurs at least once a day in some part of the district and I am not sure that its anything that can be done to stop it. Jail is not a deterrent.

    • You mean it seems like a violent crime happens once a day on this particular block? Of course it’s going to happen in any city at least once a day. That’s how the U.S. is. It’s the frequency in which violent crime happens at VERY SPECIFIC corners that is of extra concern.

  • I’m surprised there wasn’t a cop parked right there. I feel like it’s normal to see police cars on the strip right where the shooting occurred at that time of day. Even so, it seems the presence of police is not a deterrent anymore. Some folks have nothing to lose.

  • Has Brianne Nadeau done ANYTHING? Maybe I’m not on the right ListServs or email lists. I never hear from her on crime. WTF.

    • Not really sure what a city councilperson can do for stuff like this? While I suppose this could be a burglary gone wrong, I think it’s more likely that this is similar to so many other shootings in the District where the assailant knew the victim, and used a handgun obtained illegally in another state – in other words, a targeted killing. The city council can’t wave a magic wand and prevent those kind of crimes.

      • Well last year we all got an income tax reduction since DC coffers were apparently overflowing, meanwhile, our police force shrank. How bout we take some of our extra money, hire 1000 new police officers and bring back the vice units?

  • WOW! More violence next to the housing projects and open air drug market. I’m shocked.

    • Unfortunately this is what happens with concentrated tracts of low income housing. The utopian idea that waiters, school teachers, and seniors will be able to live in a perfect little affordable complex never pans out

  • today (June 14) again: Shooting at 14th & Girard St NW. LOF B/M, 6’0″, 20’s, wearing white T-Shirt, blue jeans, sunglasses Last seen North on 14th Street, NW 4575

  • And now there’s a shooting this afternoon at 14th and Girard…

  • 5-6 shots fired at 14th and girard this afternoon at about 5PM. This block just keeps getting better and better almost a daily occurrence. How is there not just surveillance cams along this stretch?

  • Paging Councilmember Nadeau. Paging Councilmember Nadeau. Your Ward is a disaster right now. At least acknowledge what’s going on!!

    • She is anti-VICE but clearly is offering no viable alternatives outside of community safety walks. Cut the crap and bring back the neighborhood VICE which is effective in curbing drug activity and violence, obviously whatever you are doing is not working!

  • His name was Devonte Crawford. Why don’t we try to keep in mind that a young man from our community is gone. And that we need to support the family and community who lost a child today. These victims have names. Let’s not forget that.

  • RIP, Devonte Crawford. Please make sure your grandma votes for me.
