It’s a weird neighborhood assignment–not Petworth, not Columbia Heights, 16th Street Heights? I think this block should be its own neighborhood.

    • I think that’s the border between Columbia Heights to the south and 16th Street Heights to the north, so different sides of the block would be different neighborhoods, technically.

    • I think of Columbia Heights as ending around Spring Street. Some people call this 14th Street Heights (as did the WaPo a few years ago), but you won’t find that on many maps. I think Redfin blends it in with Crestwood and 16th Street Heights.

I love this stretch of houses on Arkansas! I especially like that several of the homeowners have interesting sculpture in their yards and visible in those 2nd floor rooms/solaria.

  • I can’t remember all of the information about the architect, but he also did the stretch on Harvard street around 18th and the bottom of the zoo “Harvard Hill”. There is a write up about him in the Mount Pleasant guide of those neighborhood books.

  • The architects are Julian Berla and Joseph Abel. They also designed the Crestwood apartments and several other midcentury modern buildings around DC. These are the best of their designs in my opinion.

I got my sh!t (finances) together about 2 years too late to buy one of these houses. A couple years before I bought my house in Takoma, one of these sold for about what I ended up paying. It was in in pretty rough shape and needed a lot of work, but so did mine, and while I’m plenty happy in Takoma, I really like this location and really like these houses.

  • I live in the row at the end and our deed says Columbia Heights.
