MPD shots fired incident. Two suspects in custody

“At approximately 3:30 a.m., the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) notified the George Washington University Police Department (GWPD) of an attempted carjacking in progress off-campus and that officers were chasing a suspect in the direction of GW’s campus. While still off-campus, MPD officers in pursuit fired in the direction of the fleeing suspects. While this incident was unfolding, a resident student called to alert GWPD of a suspicious person hiding near Munson Hall, located at 2212 I Street. GWPD relayed this information to MPD and in turn captured the suspect.

There is continued police presence along the I Street corridor between the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro station and 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue and along 23rd street while MPD finalizes its investigation. There may be some residual police activity that continues into the mid-morning.

Campus safety is a community responsibility, and we thank our community member for her awareness and actions, which led MPD to be able to make a quick arrest. Call GWPD at 202-994-6111 if you need assistance or notice anything unusual or suspicious.”

  • Its getting hot in here

  • MPD still out there at 18th and Rhode Island NE as of 8:30 AM this morning.

    • There’s an MPD station right at that intersection (not sure which corner of the intersection this occurred on).

      • There was also police tape cordoning off that area that contains SIP, liquor store, stagehand union building. Several police officers/crime scene unit seemed to be investigating.

It’s usually pretty quiet in Brookland, but around the Metro has been problematic from time to time over the years. Altercations between kids at the Metro is not all that unusual. As far as 18th and RI Ave, that’s a little more unusual to me. It’s kind of a dead zone there.
