  • Nothing like a good ole’ fashioned group assault on an innocent person. Hoping at least some of them are charged as adults.

  • “Mayhem” is a charge?

    • “Conspiracy to Commit Mayhem!” Love it!

    • It is indeed! I remember having to learn it for the bar exam.

    • Clearly you never watched “Good Will Hunting.”

“Judge : Son, my turn. I’ve been sitting here for ten minutes now lookin’ over this rap sheet of yours. I just can’t believe it. June ’93, assault. September ’93, assault. Grand theft auto, February of ’94. Where, apparently, you defended yourself and had the case thrown out by citing “free property rights of horse and carriage” from 1798. Joke. January ’95, impersonating an officer. Mayhem, theft, resisting.”

  • That block of Hiatt, despite proximity to the strips of commercial retail on Park and Irving, can be pretty desolate at times. It turns my stomach to think of an assault by 10 kids on a woman that caused “Significant Bodily Injury.”

    • This is strange – aren’t there District Sports soccer games at the Bell field around this time?

      • Yes, I walk by there every night around that time and there’s usually either a rec league or a school group playing. I noticed an increased police presence there last week (marked cars with their lights on parked by the school) but I thought it was in response to all the broken windows. Very scary to hear about the attack, I had no idea. I hope the victim is recovering well.

  • The kids in the Columbia Heights area are brazen and out of control. There was a massive street fight in the middle of a school day a couple weeks back. They blocked traffic in the middle of 14th and Irving. I think DC should start punishing the parents. Make them go to parenting classes and do community service, fine them, whatever. They may not care for their kid but they will care when it impacts them them.

    • What s/he said^^^^^^^ +100000
Until the parents start felling the consequences there is no incentive for them to control their kids

    • I get where you’re trying to go with the parents…But the kids need to punished. If the parents take the punishment for them the kids learn nothing.

    • It’s too late for those kids. At this point no amount of parenting classes are going to help turn their kids in the right direction.
