Back in late Aug. we learned:
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit announced that an arrest has been made in regard to a series of sexual assaults that occurred in the area of Dupont Circle.”
ANC 2B09 Commissioner (Elect) Noah Smith updates:
“Unfortunately, the judge sentenced Mr. Carnejo-Pena to 180 days of jail time for each count to be served concurrently, as opposed to consecutively. He was also sentenced to three years of probation, mental health counseling, and ordered to stay away from the victims and the Dupont Circle neighborhood.”

I’ll never understand concurrent sentences. These should be banned.
I seem to remember that he is also an illegal immigrant. He should be deported.
If he is, then they will deport him after he serves his sentence.
Even if he is a legal permanent resident, he could be removed for conviction of a crime of moral turpitude.
Not necessarily. He has “only” misdemeanor offenses. ICE has started ignoring non-felons and his DC charge were not actually classified as violent or dangerous. Also, DC no longer cooperates with the Secure Communities therefore ICE will have to track him down on their own after he is released – DC will not turn him over into federal custody. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-council-votes-to-limit-reach-of-federal-effort-aimed-at-illegal-immigration/2012/06/05/gJQAVgm5GV_story.html
ICE already has a detainer on him.
Thanks for the info, anon. At least they’re doing something over there.
“at least they are doing something over there”
oh! good one!
“At least they’re doing something over there.”
Yes, they’re deporting about 400,000 people a year, with violent criminals being the priority. The number of people ICE can deport is based on their resources, and with their current budget they can deport about 400,000 people. If you don’t think they’re doing enough, blame the people who set their budget, not the people at the agency who are constrained by it.
And for the people who think we should deport “all the illegals,” there are about 12 million of them. Do the math at 400,000 per year.
Not to mention the idiots who think that this country could continue to function without interruption, if we were to eject all 12 million illegal immigrants at once.
*DC has implemented a policy to avoid being involved in immigration enforcement…
What about having to register as a sex offender?
That guy needs to be able to spell Columbia before he starts a blog about it.
From the link: District of Colombia and MPD to follow up on arrests of individuals who have committed serious crimes in our neighborhood.
I hope Ms. Glover and the other victims of this revolting predator find some solace in the fact that he has been caught, humiliated and punished for what he did to them.
disgustingly low sentence.
How do we make this crime a felony? Write to our councilmembers?
Is there any way (or venue) to express how outraged I am that a repeat sexual offender in DC is only sentenced to 3 months of jail? (he was only charged with four counts, but he admitted to more incidents than that to the police – news reports indicate that half of the 180 sentence was suspended, meaning he effectively only has to serve 90 days).
