  • i haven’t been to lavandou, but i had dinner this week up the street at DINO and it was the worst meal i’ve ever had in dc. shockingly bad.
    nice waiter though.

    • Interesting. Dino was one of my best, and that was just a few months ago. It was obscenely good

      • dino is my favorite restaurant in dc. sorry you had a bad experience. i got there often and always have a great time.

        • amazing to hear that it was good. i don’t think i’ll ever give it another shot since it was expensive and horrible, but good to know ya’ll have had good experiences there.

what did you get that you liked so much?

  • I’ve eaten at Lavandou several times and have to say I love it. That said, it’s one of those places that I’ve never seen be incredibly busy so I’m afraid that it might not be doing well enough to survive in Cleveland Park.

    • Lavandou has been there for ~ 10 years, but is has changed ownership a couple times.

Business never seems to be the problem, but if it is then I would suggest they stop taking their “French like” summer vacations where they close their doors for a month.

        Far longer than 10 years.

And I used to love them, but then Francis left, and it was not as good. And then all my favorite waiters left too.

I hear it’s better again now, but I don’t get to that side of town very often any more.

        • Definitely much longer than 10 years. Had my high school graduation dinner with my family there in 1993, and it wasn’t brand new then.

  • Coincidentally, went there yesterday for the first time. Friendly and helpful servers, excellent food. Quiet and private. Hidden gem.

I’ve eaten here many times and it is always pleasant. On Mondays, there is no corkage fee for wine so you can BYOB. IIRC they would not let me take the remainder of my mussels in a to go box which was before they started the “all you eat” deal. Some excuse about them being in the shell. I know I have taken them to go from other restaurants. Definitely worth checking out. And they have been around a lot longer than 10 years.

  • The people who work here are very charming, and the mussels are delicious. I can’t wait to come back again.

Monday nights you can bring your own wine with no corkage fee.
