From MPD around 6:30pm Sat. evening:
“A short time ago there was a robbery at 5th Street and O Street, NW. A homeless victim was shot in the neck and received non-life threatening injuries. Officers deployed in the area made one arrest and recovered the handgun used in the offense.”
From MPD around 6:50pm Sat. evening:
“At about 6:50 pm, a radio run was dispatched to Fourth District units for “The sounds of gunshots” in the area behind the 5000 block of 1st St., NW. Officers Burggraf & Gelsomino were the first to arrive in the area, assisted by other Fourth District officers. They canvassed the cemetery that abuts the dispatched location on foot. They located a male adult subject walking in the cemetery which is closed after dark. The officers’ ensuing investigation led to the recovery of two hand guns. The subject admitted to firing off a round in the cemetery. He was placed under arrest & charged with Carrying a Pistol without a License. Great job by the officers in doing a very thorough investigation resulting in the removal of this dangerous felon from our neighborhood!”
And more good news regarding one of the attacks from the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Ave, SE. From MPD Sunday morning:
“This morning a juvenile suspect was arrested for the assault of a female last week that occurred in the 1300blk of PA Ave SE
The victim sustained a fractured jaw as a result of this apparent unprovoked attack.
First District Detectives worked this case tirelessly and received help from our community until we were able to identify the juvenile suspect. He was arrested this morning at his residence without incident.
As this is a juvenile no additional information can be released.”
Nice that the police are making arrests, I suppose.
But is anyone looking at WHY we have youth carrying guns and violently assaulting random people? This speaks to a much deeper social problem that the police alone can’t begin to address.
There are many very, very poor places in the world. Most of them are safer than DC. Here in the capital of the richest country on Earth, we’ve somehow managed to create a social environment that disproportionately turns its children into violent criminals.
You must be new to Petworth. Welcome.
Hey, I didn’t raise these kids. Apparently no one else has either. Or their parents. Or their parents.
Now it’s up to DYRS to stop these ferile children. Sadly, they and the police have no teeth to nip this problem in the bud because the City Counsil is afraid to break all those momma’s hearts by locking these little effers up for good.
So, they shoot rob and maim at will. When they get caught, they are freed on bail to do it again a few hours later. If they get caught a few more times, they are put in group homes with like thuggery where they are vitually unsupervised. They sneak out/walk away and pull more crap.
And so it goes. . .
What really gets me is that the folks in charge and the long time residents are fully aware of this and still nothing is done -has been done – for decades.
The kids WERE raised. They were raised to be racists by racists. The parents voted for an avowed racist like Vincent Gray. Gray got elected. The kids feel empowered to “take back the city” from you.
I used to be friends with a family of crooks on my block. They bragged that their son never stepped down from a fight and if he heard someone talked about him on the street they were proud that he would stand up for himself by finding that person and beating them up.
These people WERE raised by parents- parents who hate white people. Get it now? Talk to them, befriend them, ask them.
Neener, the only thing being taken is another black kid’s life. The parents don’t hate white people. They barely know any. White people aren’t killing these kids and they’re not afraid of them. The total disredard for life itself is the scary part.
No more apres game vodka, K buddy? Redskins losses really mess you up.
This is all just anecdotal. Nothing to worry about. Punishing kids sends the wrong message.
Yup, the responses here should answer your question. It’s a toxic combination of racism, poor (or non-existent) parenting, and an ultra-liberal approach to crime (juvenile crime, especially).
Good job MPD
I thought Council passed a law making the identify of violent juvenile offenders public information? Has it not yet been implemented? If not, why?
Only if they are to be tried for murder. You remain unlisted if you rape a few folks, steal animals or beat the shit out of someone with a pipe.
“Singing, just singin in the rain.”
So they killed Prince because he ratted out Eric who killed Neil. Nothin’ gonna stop ‘em I guess. 4D rules rule.
The rules are bad for everyone…
In a follow up that will surprise absolutely no one:
From PSA 106 Liuetenant in regards to arrested suspect in assault:
“This juvenile is well known to 1-D members. He was previously believed to be linked to burglaries and robberies in the PSA 106/107 area.”
Thanks, Vicent
I for one want to say thank you to the police for your efforts, but also thank you to the community for helping find the attacker from last week.
“As this is a juvenile no additional information can be released.”
Who does have access to this innocent little baby’s info? Are his records going to be sealed…and now… instead of true justice…Is he going to be counselled and cared for using my tax dollars? In the back of his mind…I bet the only lesson he will learn is “I can hurt innocent people with impunity because the system is toothless and impotent.”
Our city wants to spray this human garbage with expensive perfume rather than take it to the dump… I wish exile was an option. It would be awesome if a jaw-breaking was on the table as a means of punishment.
Yup!
And I bet since we have “no more information” this kid came from that tax-payer funded derelict Potomac Gardens complex. Shut that place down NOW!
So let me get this straight… violent crime in Washington DC, which is still largely black on black, is rooted in black racism against white people?
Black (and increasingly Latino)kids are far more likely to be victims of violent crime than any other demographics in the city. I’m sorry to any victims of random act of violence, truly, but this self righteous stuff pitting lawless Black youth against innocent White folks in DC doesn’t move me, and definitely feeds into a cycle of discord in this city.
Kids in DC are so violent because there aren’t enough rec centers.
You forgot to mention that not enough passers-by smile and wish them a hearty “HELLO!” every time they see them . . . .
The random acts are the scariest, my friend. Why? Because they aren’t so random… White people are feeling threatened because the are not used to, and don’t accept as normal, the level of violence and vice that is thriving in the communities that they are landing in…
You think we are the crazy ones for saying, “This isn’t how people should be. This isn’t how a community should function.”
The officers’ ensuing investigation led to the recovery of two hand guns. The subject admitted to firing off a round in the cemetery. He was placed under arrest & charged with Carrying a Pistol without a License. Great job by the officers in doing a very thorough investigation resulting in the removal of this dangerous felon from our neighborhood!
Woo-hoo! Only ten more convictions for “Carrying a Pistol Without a License” and this “dangerous felon” may get up to 72 hours in DC jail.
Our city needs to tighten the grip on crime…and the legal venues that perpetuate it. For Example..the liquor stores that litter Kennedy…New Hampshire…Georgia… Plot crime relative to liquor stores and tell me if there is a correlation.
