The Craigslist ad says:

“Pleasant, sunny 2-bedroom apartment in 9-unit building. Excellent location on quiet residential street, just 2 blocks from Barracks Row and 5 blocks from Eastern Market Metro. Hardwood floors, eat-in kitchen, dining room, den and backyard deck. Laundry on premises. Great value for the price. $1,725 + gas/electric (+ optional $20/mo pp. laundry fee for use of on-site washer/dryer). Available in early November. NO DOGS or SMOKING, please.

Email us if you would like to get a copy of the application in advance of the open house (recommended).

Real Estate and Job References are REQUIRED”

Is it common to need a job reference? Does $1725 sound reasonable for this 2 bedroom?

  • yes–good deal. I’d like to see the kitchen, but if I were looking for a 2br this would be on my list.

  • I recently moved and the landlords wanted proof of employment and also requested to speak with my boss. My boss spoke with the landlord and it turned out that his primary concern was less about me and more about whether or not I was likely to have a job for the duration of my lease. Fortunately, the answer was yes.

  • It looks like a good deal to me – a non-basement 2BR this close to a Metro (and fun spots like Barracks Row) for under $2000 isn’t easy to find in DC.

(and they allow cats too – thank you landlord people, whoever you are!)

  • definitely a good deal!
