  • Rave: Myrtle-gate has provided me with much entertaining reading today!

  • Rant: Relationship frustrations are frustrating, money is tight, Crepe Myrtles beware!

Rave: One week left at this awful job, camping this weekend, vacation soon!

  • Am stuck in a kafka-esque hell of UPS customer service. So far, three hours, at least seven operators, three hang-ups, and two blatant misdirections.

    FedEx, here I come.

  • RANT: allergies
Double RANT: Out of good allergies meds and left subpar allergy meds at home.

    RAVE: vacation next week

  • Rave: Had a blast at Lollapalooza.

Rant: Had to come back to my crap job.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed the tennis this weekend (along with Muriel Bowser and Usher) – vacation next week for three days – I love the heat!

  • Rant/Rave – busy at work, makes it go by fast, but alas it is only MONDAY

Rant – Pat’s cheesesteaks in Philly this weekend had a line around the block so I didn’t wait

Rave – went to NoddingHead instead and had a delicious beer and moroccan mussels… AND mac & cheese! I’m a fat kid stuck in a [not really thin but not fat] kid’s body!

Rant – my boyfriend lives in Philly

  • hey. i’ve loved to see the marion barry movie tonight. any place showing it on the screen?

  • Rant: Upshur pool closes too early on Saturday (6 pm!)
Rave: Like that the spray park at 8th St. NW is working again.
Rant: Not a smidgeon of shade at that park.

  • Rave: Marion Barry Documentary Premiere tonight on HBO!
Rant: I have no idea what bar I can go to so I can get positively sloshed and watch it! Any ideas, commentariat?

  • @Petworth Newbie (and everyone) — DC pools are open until 9pm tonight! So says NPR, because of the heatwave.

  • Rant: My neighbor is anemic to yardwork and has a 50′ tree in the front yard that has been dead for 3 years.
Rave: I painted my roof white and it is helping keep the house cool in this heat!

  • Thought: How did you do it? What type of paint, cost, etc?

rant: upstairs of my house is 10 degrees warmer than 1st floor.
    rave: cool 1st floor

  • Rave: Managed to change the drippy tub and shower spigot and plumbing by myself after a surgical cut to the drywall and only 3 trips to home depot for reducers, fittin’s, and what nots. Lil’ Gal is pleased there are no more drips.

Rant: Another painful 10 hour reminder about how cheap and unprofessional the remodeling contractor who originally flipped my house in ’03 was. Somebody’s going to get punched in the nose if I ever come across them.

  • Rant: sore from the weekend.

Rave: getting another bonus. investments kickin ass.

  • Rave: It’s been 6 years since I first move to Petworth!
Rant: The neighborhood is still a s**thole.

  • Revel: DCPR pools opening early today!

Rant: That DCPR pools normally open absurdly and inappropriately late. Oh, and the random stupid rules they have. And the selective enforcement of those rules.

i.e. No kids under 12 are supposed to be there without adult supervision – a rule that is NEVER enforced. Consequence? When I’m, oh, I don’t know, actually hanging out with my kids, playing with them, and teaching them to swim, like a parent should, I get SWAMPED by 8 year olds who want attention, because they’re not getting it at the pool or, apparently, at home. I know, it is better that they are at the pool than in the alleys throwing things, but seriously. And then the ‘no piggybacking’ rule is applied WITHOUT FAIL. Why? Because the don’t want kids to dunk each other. Fine, but do you really think that me swimming down the pool with my 5 year old (who can swim very well, thank you very much) on my back (back, not shoulders!) presents a clear and present danger? Seriously. If some rules can be broken, then put some thought into the enforcement of all of them.

Wow, apparently I really needed to get that off my back – no pun intended.

  • Rave: This week of work can’t be harder or more difficult than last week’s!

Rant: Still recovering from last week.

  • I got stung by a bee yesterday and my hand is still all swollen 🙁

Just took a benadryl, keeping my fingers crossed it doesn’t make me drowsy this time….prognosis: not good.

  • Fed Ex Field is far.
Why didn’t they just tear down RFK and put it there?

  • Rave: Finally figured out how to use ArcGIS.
Rant: I have to use ArcGIS at the library and it is FREEZING in here.

  • @ 1:40pm: The 10 gallon paint ($60) is available at Lowes. There is another brand at Home Depot. I used 20 gallons for my rowhouse. I used a broom to apply (kind of like a giant paintbrush) and did the whole thing in 2 hours. Seriously, my 2nd floor is so much cooler! The DOE has a website about “cool” white roofs. Apparently helps make the roof last longer as well. Definate Rave.

  • Rave: Happy 5th Birthday, Wonderland!
Rant: No Saloon for a month
Rave: Commy’s going to Bangladesh to facilitate/finance the building of a school, so I’ll live for a month w/out the Saloon. If I want a Flemish Burgundy so badly I can go to Dr. Granville’s or DiVinos.
Rave: Bing of historic proportions did not yield a significant, hardly measurable blinder. I attribute this to taking vitamins ahead of time.

Side note: great band name idea: “Bing of Historic Proportions” – sounds like a bar band, eh?

  • Rave: Vacation afterglow
    Rant: None 🙂

  • rave: had nothing short of a perfect final weekend with my girlfriend.
rant: my lovely girlfriend is moving to nyc on wednesday. fuck.

  • Rant: my cat pooped himself all over and i had to give him a bath yesterday, it was horrible and miserable for both of us. Neither of us has recovered. I think that pretty much wraps up the weekend!

  • Thought- TWENTY GALLONS? how big is your roof? is this paint super thick or something?

  • Petworthres, how did your cat poop all over himself? Once my long haired cat had some poop still stuck on her back fur and was very upset and I had to get it off her (not pleanat for any of us, but I did it). Cats really like to be clean.

  • Rave: Even after the “Molly the Vizsla” story has been dead, there are still multiple people commenting with it on DCist.

Rant: DCist is only good for the comments

  • Rant: I tried to post this on Friday and it was a fail.

Rave: My job is done! Unemployment is fun! My mom’s surgery went great, none of her lymph nodes have cancer so we’re 95% in the clear.

Rant: Its hotter then a witch’s tit in a copper bra outside and I cant enjoy my unemployment outside on my hammock.

  • Rave: Seeing old friends at the outer body llama show at wonderland.

Rant: Flat tire from wiping out on the bike riding home.

Rave: No current shortage of Cold Beer Mugs

  • Rave: Just came back from 5 days in the mountains and lakes of NH.

Rant: Got off the plane in DC to 100 degree weather. What the f—?!

  • Rant: people who would do something like this to a defenseless animal.

  • @4:24 pm:
Normal rowhouse roof; I live on Parkwood Place. The paint is super thick, as it has aluminum or something reflective in it so it reflects the sun/heat. Normal white paint won’t do… I went through my receipts, the brand is BlackJack; I used 10 gallons total (two 5 gallon buckets, $80/each). My upstairs was only 76 degreees when I came home yesterday (with the central AC off all day)!
