“Columbia Room founder Derek Brown has been dreaming of an al fresco space dedicated to spritzes for a while now, mulling over a temporary popup at his Shaw cocktail bar or even at a separate location. When the pandemic hit, Columbia Room shifted to focus on outdoor-dining-only until Phase Three of reopening in DC, utilizing its current patio as well as an extended streatery area located in tucked-away Blagden Alley. With warmer weather arriving in Washington, it became clear that the Spritz Garden should set up shop there, providing another outdoor space for small, intimate groups of friends to safely visit bars and restaurants. “The space is meant for being outside with the sun shining, and the spritz is the perfect representation of that.”, says Brown.

“The District of Columbia, Arlington County and northeastern Fairfax County will clean out their tap water network starting Monday–a safe, annual process. “The Washington Nationals will celebrate Opening Day and their first home game of the 2021 season on Thursday, April 1 when the team hosts the New York Mets. The game will be aired exclusively on ESPN, with first pitch scheduled for 7:09 p.m. ET. The game will also be broadcasted on 106.7 The Fan FM.
In accordance with CDC recommendations and MLB protocols, the Nationals will implement appropriate social distancing and safety measures that will allow Nationals Park to host 5,000 fans on Opening Day. Discussions have already begun with officials from the District about increasing capacity for the second homestand, which begins April 15. (more…)

Thanks to Nikki for sending last week: “Ume (plum blossoms) are in bloom at the Kennedy Center! The sakura (cherry blossoms) around the Tidal Basin are still budding but these beauties are a sight to behold and smell lovely. I didn’t know the difference between these two types of trees until researching why this little patch was in bloom so early. I thought I would share with anyone else who would like to take a walk to see them.” (more…)
