This week in scuttlebutt I hear that a fried chicken pop up (from chef/folks many have heard of) is coming to that vacant space set to eventually be developed at Georgia Ave, NW. I guess while they are waiting for plans/logistics to fall into place a pop up restaurant featuring fried chicken could take over the space for a while. Updates when/if more info is know.

Some incredibly big scuttlebutt was reported by Elevation DC earlier this week:

“The store’s website [Mrs. Greens natural food store] had (now removed) a “Coming Soon” page for a Dupont Circle location at 11 Dupont Circle NW, the office building on the circle’s northwest corner, with a retail component (where there’s currently a Books-A-Million) on the ground floor. That building was put on the market in May, and the retail space was put on the market around the same time.”

Mrs Greens website says:

“Mrs. Green’s Natural Market is a neighborhood store, passionately committed to clean, natural foods. Dedicated to health and sustainability. Devoted to customers who care deeply about the foods they eat.”

Back in January 2012 I wondered about the long term future of this Books a Million.

Which would you rather have in this location Books a Million or Mrs. Greens?

A pretty reliable reader passes on this piece of scuttlebutt:

Sports Club LA in Foggy Bottom [1170 22nd St, NW] bought by Equinox.”

Any fans of Equinox? Updates when/if more info is known.

UPDATE: Confirmed! From a press release:

Equinox today announced plans to acquire the Sports Club/LA properties in New York, Boston, Miami, San Francisco and Washington D.C., as well as the Reebok Sports Club/NY location in New York City from affiliates of Millennium Partners. The acquisition is further evidence of the brand’s ambitious growth agenda, positioning Equinox in new markets and lines of business and continuing to cement its place as the high-performance lifestyle leader. With the six newly acquired properties, Equinox now operates 73 total clubs in the U.S. and globally; located in 10 major urban U.S. markets, plus London and Toronto. (more…)

This week’s prime scuttlebutt is likely to excite half and infuriate the other half. Ed. Note: It seems that most of the Columbia Heights/14th Street scuttlebutt I post has a similar division. Back in Dec. 2013 we learned that Lime Fresh abruptly closed their DC USA location in Columbia Heights (they still have a spot open in Chinatown.) Since the closure, lots of folks have been wondering who will take over the 14th Street space by Target. I’ve heard that a Chick Fil A is strongly considering coming to the space. Nothing in stone yet but I’m hearing it’s a very good possibility. Stay tuned.

Some interesting tidbits came out in yesterday’s discussion about Beau Thai applying for a liquor license at their new location at 7th and P St, NW. In the comments a couple readers say that the space at New Jersey and R St, NW:

“will become a noodle shop of some kind”

While the owner is unable to confirm at this time he does say:

“it’s getting a makeover and a new concept is going in that we think folks will love.”
