From Lost City Books:

“”We work hard to make Lost City Books a place you want to visit. And listen — while we love to do it, it is a lot of work! We think we deserve a break.

For our second year running, Lost City Books is taking a vacation this August! As a small independent business, it’s a big deal for us to close the store for nearly two weeks and pay everyone for the duration of the break. We do this because we care about our staff getting time off to do whatever they want!

Some of us will be embarking on a weeklong Malört-fueled bender. Some of us will be taking up residence at Banneker Pool. Some of us will be staying inside reading in front of our window AC units, and some of us will be getting out of town and away from this sweltering swamp town altogether. (Just kidding, no one’s going on a weeklong Malört-fueled bender, that’d be kind of scary.)

Last year our sale leading up to the break was a huge success, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve noticed that most DC residents are not aware that the city will plant trees for free if you request them on the 311 app which is also free. It takes about 5 minutes to request. I’ve marked up some screenshots of the steps on the 311 app to make it easier to know what to do. It’s a simple step in helping our city fight the heat. The woman who was attacked was saved by a bystander — a person who lives in the area — and was able to jump into someone’s car, who then apparently drove her to safety.

The woman who attacked her was seen wandering the area after that. (more…)

From WMATA:

“The future is looking clearer for Metrobus, as Metro and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announce the start of the 45-day minimum warning period for the Clear Lanes program. The goal is to improve bus speeds and reliability. Parked cars and vehicles illegally using dedicated bus lanes and bus stop zones slow buses down and impedes customer safety.

Under the program, cameras mounted on Metrobuses will capture video and photos of vehicles illegally operating, parking, standing, or stopping in dedicated bus lanes and bus zones. All enforcement will be handled by DDOT. Metro will not have any role in ticketing and enforcement. (more…)
