“In advance of the expected snowfall, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that DC Public Schools will be closed on Monday, January 6. The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting 5-9 inches of snow mixture in the District, starting Sunday night between 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. Heaviest snowfall is expected from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, (more…)

Counting and Certification of the 2024 Presidential Election and State Funeral of Former President Jimmy Carter

Monday, January 6 – Thursday, January 9, 2025

On Monday, January 6, 2025 the counting and certification of the 2024 Presidential Election will occur during a Joint Session of Congress. From Tuesday, January 7, 2025, through Thursday, January 9, 2025, the State Funeral of former President Jimmy Carter will take place in the District of Columbia. Numerous law enforcement agencies, including the Metropolitan Police Department, the United States Secret Service, the United States Capitol Police and others will provide security for the event to ensure the safety of visiting dignitaries, attendees, and members of the public.

“Archives rail station to close, buses will detour for President Jimmy Carter funeral events Jan. 6-9”

“As Washington, D.C. prepares to host funeral events for former President Jimmy Carter, Metro is announcing temporary service adjustments to ensure the safety and security of attendees and residents.

Metrorail Service Adjustments:

Metro will close the Archives – Navy Memorial rail station to customers starting Jan. 6 at 5 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. on Jan. 8, at the request of the Secret Service. Trains will bypass the station.
Metrobus Service Adjustments:

Security zones around the White House, the U. S. Capitol, and the National Cathedral will close off several streets to traffic, including transit vehicles.”
