“Local scam — HVAC cleaning”

“Dear PoPville,

There is a local scam going around that has now appeared on several listserves I’ve been on. A person joins a listserve claiming to be a member of the group, e.g. “a 20-something who attends XXX congregation,” then claims that they have a “group rate” for HVAC cleanings of $150. There is indeed a company that shows up and does something if you sign up, but it is tantamount to doing nothing and they are misleading about what services they provide. The original poster then tries to pressure you into signing more people up for the pyramid scheme. More details below. (more…)

“Connecticut Avenue NW Deckover Work Scheduled to Begin Tuesday, September 23, 2025 Service Lanes to Close from Q Street to Dupont Circle”

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin construction of the deckover at Dupont Circle on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, as part of the Connecticut Avenue Streetscape and Deckover Project, weather permitting.

The new deckover will transform the space above the Connecticut Avenue underpass into a vibrant public plaza designed for strolling, relaxing, outdoor dining, working, and hosting community events. This project will enhance pedestrian connections, create new opportunities for public art and cultural programming, and add green space in one of DC’s most iconic neighborhoods. (more…)

Update: Issue Resolved. “Partial 911 Disruption – some 911 calls in DC are not being connected to call takers or being dropped upon being answered”

Update from AlertDC 9:21am: “The District’s Office of Unified Communications reports this morning’s issue with 911 service is resolved. Please call 911 if you have an emergency.”

From AlertDC:

“The OUC is aware that some 911 calls in DC are not being connected to call takers or being dropped upon being answered. If you are unable to get through on 911 please dial 202-265-9100 to be connected to a 911 call taker.”
