Heads up, a reader reports:

“Just got a scam call from a guy claiming to work for pepco. He stated that a work order has been issued to shut off my power and all they needed is a payment over the phone In order to cancel the order. Stay alert and be safe. Spread the word.”

A reader writes from the 2100 block of 11th Street, NW:

“Looks like the guy was waiting across the street (inside the gated area of the common area of the Beauregard condo building) for the UPS guy to leave after dropping off the packages (we saw this from their security camera). So he comes over to my unit, grabs a box from upstairs, and two more boxes from downstairs. He takes them to the alley behind Beauregard, comes back to my house, grabs the 4th package. Takes it back to the alley behind Beauregard takes out all the stuff and leaves the empty boxes there. The still shots of him is from the security camera of the Beauregard.”

May seem obvious to some but a good reminder not to be complacent:

“I had my purse and phone stolen at Banneker pool two summers ago, and I know this is a pretty regular occurrence at this time of year. I now lock my stuff up in a locker with a padlock which helps me relax and enjoy my swim a lot more.

A few weeks ago as I was leaving Banneker pool, I overheard another swimmer reporting her bag was stolen and just this past weekend, someone sitting near me on the pool deck had their phone swiped.”

Last week on Instagram (thanks to @caitylovesjames for tagging us in this great shot) I was lamenting CityCenter’s prices while admiring their style:

Turns out they got something I can afford – free putt putt!! Sweet. The course from City Golf is set up at 10th and I Street, NW across from Momofuku. You can register for a tournament Thursday here. Otherwise the course will remain open until July 2nd. Hours are 11am – 7pm. When I passed it on Saturday there was only one other group playing.

“Dear PoPville,

Last Friday sometime during the workday somebody climbed in through one of our street level windows on the backside of our house. They went through our entire basement, a room on the main floor, and our living room. The perpetrator stole my roommates laptop, some jewelry, clothes, odd knick-knacks and even tried on one of her bathing suits (taking it out of the amazon box and leaving it inside out).

If anyone saw anything please let us know/ a good reminder to neighbors to lock all their windows!”

Good grief. A reader writes:

“Corner of Biltmore and Cliffbourne.

Cracking the windows is not enough on sunny days! The dog was in there for at least an hour and a half. Thanks to MPD Officer Dunn and the Humane Rescue Alliance.

Maryland plates, to the surprise of no one…”

And passes on the original report from the Adams Morgan listserv this morning: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been sitting at Joselito for less than 20 minutes and in that time no fewer than a dozen people have been turned away dejected that District Taco is closed for renovation, which makes me think this is new. Figured I’d do my civic duty and report it.”

Last week District Taco reported on their Facebook page:

“Beginning tomorrow, June 5th, our Eastern Market location will be temporarily closed for renovations! Lo siento for the inconvenience.”

I’ll update when they reopen!

“Dear PoPville,

Wanted to drop a line about a “new” ticket scam similar to the one in October.

I got duped myself, after buying 4 tickets to the upcoming U2 show. Fortunately, I was able to trick the scammer by posing as another buyer before cornering him and demanding my money back, but there are multiple posts on Craigslist by this same outfit.

I suspected they were fake and did some research after I bought them. They looked identical to the fake Adele tickets. Also, after some research, I discovered that all the GA tickets to the U2 show are “paperless”, meaning you never get a ticket, you swipe the credit card that you bought the tickets with and then show an ID.
