The heads up from DC Fire and EMS:
“Fireworks Notification
Tonight, 4/4/26, at approximately 8:30 pm, there will be a 15-minute fireworks display on the Anacostia River in the vicinity of Navy Yard.
This presentation is a part of the Cherry Bloss Festival Petalpalooza Celebration.
Please do not be alarmed.”
Again, tell your friends, tell ’em PoPville told you. And prepare your pets.

Goodness. From an email:
“Beginning Saturday, April 11th, Desert 5 Spot DC is debuting a brand new brunch service. The new menu leans into the bar’s signature Western spirit–equal parts laid-back and a little unruly–and arrives just in time for spring.
The menu brings that energy to the table with brunch specials like Chicken & Waffles, a Smoked Brisket Breakfast Burrito, and Buttermilk Pancakes. There’s also another addition that feels destined to steal the spotlight: a fully self-serve, build-it-yourself Bloody Mary Bar (more…)

Ed. Note: Unrelated but “The U.S. Military will conduct an Aircraft Flyover in the NCR over Arlington National Cemetery, on Friday, April 3, at approximately 3:05PM.
From the Nationals:
“The Washington Nationals will celebrate Opening Day at Nationals Park on Friday, April 3, with a 1:05 p.m. matchup against the defending World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Ballpark gates open at 11:00 a.m., and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:15 p.m. to enjoy the pregame ceremonies. The weekend fun will continue on Saturday, April 4, as the Nationals and Budweiser are throwing a 21st Birthday Celebration with special activities and giveaways for fans to enjoy.
Ahead of Friday’s home opener, the Nationals will celebrate baseball’s place in our country’s 250-year history with a special ceremonial first pitch featuring a number of individuals who have helped grow the game. Additionally, the U.S. Army Ceremonial Band will perform the national anthem, America the Beautiful and God Bless America; a representative from Boeing will deliver the game’s lineup card to umpires at home plate; and Mayor Muriel Bowser will give the call to ‘Play Ball!’ The Opening Day pregame ceremonies will also feature 250 military members creating a tunnel in center field for starting lineup and manager introductions; our nation’s colors presented by Joint Armed Forces Color Guard; a giant American flag unfurling in the outfield; and a flyover from four F-16C Fighting Falcons from the 121st Fighter Squadron, D.C. Air National Guard.

“Dear PoPville,
The classic Easterns jingle has been part of DMV culture for decades, and we recently remixed it with DC Go-Go legends Junkyard Band to celebrate both the legacy of the jingle and 50 years of Go-Go in DC. To mark the moment, we’re hosting a free community Go-Go concert on April 12.
We’re celebrating 50 years of Go-Go and DMV culture by remaking the classic Easterns jingle with Junkyard Band. We’re also collaborating with Capital City Mambo Sauce to debut a commemorative mambo sauce bottle for the event. The celebration will be hosted by DJ Flexx at our Easterns Automotive Group location in Laurel.
It will be a free, family friendly community event with food, entertainment, and more.”

“Dear PoPville,
This is one of two Christmas trees (the other is in a treebox) near the corner of Park Place and Otis Place NW, both of which have been hanging around since January, pre-Snowcrete. (The fence for the Old Soldier’s Home.)
When I called 311, I was told Christmas tree pickup was over and any trees in the alley for regular trash pickup will be taken if space allows.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
In Logan Circle developments continued, signs up this morning stating the park will be closed starting Monday.
Scuttlebutt is replacing the sidewalks and benches (which are already removed), we’ll see…”
Ed. Note: Presumably the benches will be refurbished and reinstalled as part of the refresh? That would be insane if they permanently removed the benches…

Other readers reported yesterday: “All the benches were removed from Logan Circle this morning. Any idea why they took them?” (more…)
