“Dear PoPville,

I was running on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail near the aquatic gardens early this morning when I spotted a huge turkey sitting in the middle of the trail. Here’s a video I captured while still in the “what a lovely bird” mindset.

But it just kept walking towards me, so I decided I’d better be on my way and turned to run in the other direction. But it followed me–chased is the better word. And when I realized, looking panicked over my shoulder, that it was closing in on me like a velociraptor road runner, I saw that I definitely could not out-run a turkey and probably shouldn’t try to. G writes us: “DCA line this Morning, out the door for terminal A. if you have a flight coming up soon, come very early.”

On Wednesday we got a DCA PSA about long security lines at the airport. Update: They’re apparently getting longer. So keep in mind as we get closer to Thanksgiving travel (we did a poll showing almost 60% of respondents would be traveling this year, obviously not all by air but still.)

Martha writes us earlier this morning: “Advice to holiday revelers, traveling through DCA: allow yourself extra time. There’s quite a bit of construction here and the security lines are longer than I thought they’d be at this early hour! Pre-check was faster – but still more people than I thought would be in line at 5:30 a.m.!”

Incidentally – are many folks headed out of town this year? If so, when are you leaving? Coming back? Safe travels to all who are!

We even googled it before going to check, but the top hit is from 2019 and apparently that rule is outdated. Below is the new rule, (more…)

Unfortunately we got a report about this happening in February and again in September. One reader suggests anyone with a Prius “go buy a shield right now.”
