“Today, the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water) will collect water samples from four to five locations in the area of Northeast D.C. currently under a boil water advisory. These samples will be analyzed at DC Water’s laboratory. Test results should be available Tuesday afternoon. A second round of sampling will also take place tomorrow. Following two consecutive days of clear samples, DC Water will lift the current boil water advisory, which we expect will be on Wednesday.

DC Water crews will open hydrants in the area to flush the distribution system by circulating fresh water through the system. This process can be repeated if needed.
DC Water issued the Boil Water Advisory after a temporary loss of pressure in the evening of May 28, 2023. DC Water advised customers to boil water first before using it for drinking or cooking if they are in the impacted area. This includes the neighborhoods of Fort Lincoln, Woodridge, and Langdon. My close friends and several family members were all walking from my apt on H ST NE, north towards Union Market, to cap off a great weekend of celebrating my doctoral graduation. Sadly, as we were about to cross Florida Ave, these 2 or 3 teens with a gun robbed two in my large group of their belongings. This is ridiculous to say the least that these teens did it in broad daylight, in front of children and several homeowners just enjoying their front lawn. 1:00 PM on a sunny Sunday. (more…)

“Mayor Muriel Bowser and the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that select spray parks located in all eight wards will open early on Monday, May 15. Additionally, registration for DPR’s 2023 summer programming will begin on Tuesday, May 16 for aquatics programs, and Wednesday, May 17 for all other programs. Registration will open at noon on both days.
“With temperatures starting to heat up, we’re excited to announce that the District’s spray parks will open early this year for residents to stay active, have fun, and stay cool,” said Mayor Bowser. “We are committed to providing ways, especially for our young people, to enjoy the best of DC by providing resources and programming that helps keeps them safe and engaged. Summer is just around the corner, and we hope families will take advantage of all the great summer programming available at our recreation centers, our schools, and through our community-based organizations.”

Jogging in rock creek park around 330 Sunday I saw a group of people crowded on boulder bridge looking down into the creek at a beaver that wasn’t moving. Word going around was that an off leash dog had attacked it about 20 minutes earlier. (more…)
