Lost City Books Summer Sale (before taking a little break) In Store August 19th and 20th, Online till the 31st!

2467 18th Street, NW

From Lost City Books:

“”We work hard to make Lost City Books a place you want to visit. And listen — while we love to do it, it is a lot of work! We think we deserve a break.

For our second year running, Lost City Books is taking a vacation this August! As a small independent business, it’s a big deal for us to close the store for nearly two weeks and pay everyone for the duration of the break. We do this because we care about our staff getting time off to do whatever they want!

Some of us will be embarking on a weeklong Malört-fueled bender. Some of us will be taking up residence at Banneker Pool. Some of us will be staying inside reading in front of our window AC units, and some of us will be getting out of town and away from this sweltering swamp town altogether. (Just kidding, no one’s going on a weeklong Malört-fueled bender, that’d be kind of scary.)

Last year our sale leading up to the break was a huge success, and we hope this year is no different!

We’re having a 20% off sale on in-store and online purchases the weekend leading up to our break, August 19th and 20th. You can continue to support us by shopping while we’re away with a 20% discount for online orders August 21st through 31st. Come out and show your favorite independent booksellers some love, clear out our shelves, and wish us a relaxing and restful vacation! Head here for more information!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
