“Dear PoPville,

Well, here’s a new one! Today around 3:20pm on Capitol Hill a disgruntled Little Free Library patron was apparently fed up with our disappointing selection and decided to leave us a note to let us know. Curious if anyone else has received such a message.

I have so many questions for this person. Did he come by with the intention to leave this note or was it a spur of the moment decision based on our current inventory? Was this note meant for us specifically or all patrons who take and leave books? Shall we institute a survey to find out what kind of books he’d like to see in the future and then ask people to knock on our door to make sure their books pass muster before dropping them off? Was the item on which he wrote this message (a wooden Halloween ghost, I believe?) something he brought along with him and what significance does it have? He took a photo; has he posted it somewhere? Some sort of LFB hate group, perhaps?

WTF? I can’t stop laughing at the absurdity of it all.”

First of all, The Whitman condo residents facing this alley who are PoPville readers – how could you not email me this?!?!? This is my bread and butter and I have to read about it in the home of Washington’s best doctors?!? Just kidding, I’m a big Jessica Sidman fan and I’m glad she was able to dig into this story which is absolutely ridiculous:

“Tim alleges he has long observed leaky cooking oil drums and overflowing dumpsters attracting rats in the alley behind Corduroy and Baby Wale.

So, on February 17, Tim emailed the health department outlining a long list of grievances. On Feb. 21, health inspectors showed up at both restaurants. It was the second time within about a month they had responded to complaints about the establishments. Both times, they found no major violations.

Shortly after, a banner appeared in the back of Corduroy, facing the condo building, with a message:

“YOU NEED A BOYFRIEND!”

Read the full story in Washingtonian here.

So – thoughts? Funny? Legit reaction to the frustration or just being a jackass? How long should he leave the sign up?

I stopped by on Sunday days after the story was first reported and was sure the sign would be gone. Nope. There was a cop checking it out though…

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve seen cars with these “notes (don’t block this space”) and suspect it’s likely the homeowner who expects the spot in front of their house to be reserved just for them. Interestingly enough the area generally has abundant parking so even if you were in “this space” there’s likely one just a few feet ahead or behind. Seems like someone got fed up with it! (Also there were several signs placed in the area. All have been ripped down expect this one. Apparently “this space” letter-writer doesn’t appreciate getting notes about acceptable behaviors.)”
