Jam Doung is located at 1726 N Capitol Street, NW and frequently gets mentioned when I talk about “hidden” restaurants in the city. Reviewers from Yelp seem to agree giving high marks to this Jamaican spot. My question – how’s the jerk chicken? Do they deliver or is the take out only pick up?

Back in May ’08 we first heard about Patty Boom Boom located at 1359 U Street, NW. This is the Jamaican themed spot owned by the folks behind Marvin. I hear they’ll have a DJ on Thursday as well. I’m looking forward to checking this spot out.

We’ve been teased with a Jamaican Restaurant coming to this spot since 2007. This new sign is promising…

At 3303 Georgia Ave, a new Jamaican restaurant opened 5 or so days ago. I’m loving the sign:

Lunch Specials are $5.99 and include Curry Chicken, Brown Stew Chicken, Jerk Chicken, Jerk Chicken Salad, and Jerk Sandwich. There are also appetizers and entrees. Some entrees include Curry Goat ($8.99), Brown Stew Snapper ($11.50) and some appetizers include Fried Plantains ($2.20) and Coco Bread ($1.50) of course lots more options available.

I was at Big Bear this weekend and someone mentioned that Naby’s Island Restaurant, located at 1128 H Street, NE, has some of the best Jamaican food in town. I, of course, am a huge Sweet Mango Cafe fan. Then as I was walking back up Georgia Ave. I spotted Negril’s Eatery located at 2301 Georgia Ave., NW.

So first are there any fans of these two spots? Secondly, where’s your favorite Jamaican spot in town?

I received this email to late too post yesterday but wanted to share the good deed done by Tropicana Eatery. From a reader:
“The Tropicana Eatery at 725 Florida Ave NW Washington, DC 20001 is spending the day giving out free meals to anyone who stops by. Not only free meals, but free meals with all the fixins. Jerk Chicken, Barbecue Chicken, Curry Chicken, Mac N Cheese, Red Beans N Rice, Corn and Sweet Potatoes. Their generosity is remarkable, and I am very appreciative of the best Thanksgiving meal I’ve had in years.”
