Late last night my fiancé and I were walking on 10th St NW and almost stepped on what I thought was a pile of leaves. He recognized it as a snake and we leapt out of the way. It never moved and part of me is still convinced it was fake, but light Googling has told me this might be a copperhead?? Help??” (more…)

“Always great to get a reminder that there’s some pretty cool wildlife in the park!
Also, dog owners should always keep their pets on-leash in the park. This fella had multiple bite marks in his or her shell (as well as a front claw that appears to have taken some damage at some point), and it seems pretty unlikely a fox or coyote would go after something this big. Hopefully this one made it back to the creek unmolested!”
