Washington, DC

Thanks to Nick for sending:

“Over the last few months, I’ve watched some large hawk-looking birds build a sizable nest atop one of the highway signs over the Francis Case Memorial Bridge. I’ve even glimpsed them carrying a wriggling, silvery fish in their claws as they fly. Any idea what kind of birds these are? My guess is ospreys, but I honestly have no idea.”

And Phil Yabut got a great closeup:

If you spot a hawk or any interesting wildlife around town, lunching or otherwise, and get a good photo please send where you spotted it to [email protected] and I’ll add it to the queue. Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.
