Nate writes us last night: “Hey PoPville — can you help me give a shout-out to the two very kind women who helped after I crashed my bike in pothole on 11th & Mass Ave NW this morning? Was a bloody mess but they helped me get out of the road and clean myself up until I could get a ride home.

I can’t remember their names (I was in shock and bleeding everywhere; I think one said Mara), but they were an incredible example of the very good neighbors Washingtonians are. Thankful for their help during an already stressful time. And DPW please fix that killer hole.”

Thanks to a reader for passing on from Medstar Hospital Center:

“We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity and support from the community during the #COVID19 pandemic. We recently recognized D.C.-area chef Erik Bruner-Yang and his crew Troy Hickman, Cuong Vo, and Chef Peter Prime of Cane, who donated their 10,000th meal to our hospital staff. Our Chief Nursing Officer Tonya Washington presented them with commemorative plaques in recognition of their devotion to our team. The food crew took a victory lap through a delighted throng of 200-plus associates. Thank you, Chef Erik and your team, and thank you to everyone who helped make his Power of 10 Initiative happen! We are so grateful!”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m writing in the hopes you can share about the free produce distribution that Common Good City Farm is doing every Wednesday from 4pm-6pm at their farm in LeDroit Park (300 V St NW). I’m a volunteer there and want to make sure the city knows about this effort- access to healthy food is so important, especially if you’re out protesting! The farm is distributing pre-packaged boxes (for food safety/Covid reasons) of fresh, organic produce from farms around the DMV area, completely free. Last week, boxes included broccoli, salad greens, sweet potatoes, rhubarb, and more. This will change weekly, but it’s always a great selection! (more…)

From an email:

“DC Wood for Good

Today, throughout Washington, DC, businesses, residences, and other buildings are boarded up to protect their property from damage. We support the protestors and their desire to force change. What this project is about is what is next for the wood. Unfortunately, much will find its way to a landfill, however, we want to help find a second life for this wood, and use it as a reminder of this landmark time in our nation’s history. Through the use of art and creativity, we will be able to keep this moment in time fresh in our minds.
Shaw Main Streets is asking that businesses donate their unwanted wood.

We are seeking local artists and creators to transform this wood into art, useful items like benches and planters, and other uses that are useful to the community. Shaw Main Streets will auction off some of the finished projects with proceeds benefiting local movements that promote equality. Additional pieces will be shared for Art All Night, an annual art festival that canvasses the city.

Thanks to Kerry for sending yesterday (so there might not be any left): “Free Masks for BLM protestors, including kids!) in Bloomingdale/LeDroit near 2nd and V St. NW.”
