Addis Ethiopian restaurant is coming to the former Casual Corner space. Check out their menus here. Their website says:

“We are immigrants from Ethiopia who came here in search of the American dream to become an entrepreneur. Just like any other successful entrepreneur, we worked extremely hard to make the dream reality. None of us ever dreamed in our wildest dream to become a restaurant owner in the city of Washington DC, the nations capital.

We want to share the most beautiful tradition and a life style which we all grew up in with the rest of the world. We have opened our door to anyone who wants to experience the original extraordinary ethnic Ethiopian foods.

“Enkwan Dehna Metachuh” Welcome To Addis Ethiopian Restaurant!

Our doors are open every day from 11am until 11pm”

Chercher Ethiopian Restaurant quietly opened in this small downstairs space back in 2012. Could be another “hidden” gem according to the Yelp reviews. And if that’s the case – good news – they’re expanding into the upstairs space! Updates when that section gets closer to opening. In the meantime anyone try them out yet?

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to invite you to an awesomely unique new happening on Georgia Avenue. Kokeb restaurant is opening an Ethiopian Brunch starting this Sunday, June 29th from 11am – 1pm.

The grand Opening will feature a buffet of amazing dishes, a traditional coffee ceremony, spiced bloody mary’s, honey wine, and music. We will also be selling goods handmade by Ethiopian in a partnership with myfight, a group that is fighting poverty by creating international marketplaces for skilled women.

Going forward, the restaurant will open at 10 am Saturdays and Sundays.

I lived in Ethiopia for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer. Kokeb to me represents what Ethiopia feels and tastes like and this is extends to the genuine hospitality of the owner.”

When we judged nearby Ethiopian restaurant, Etete, a commenter mentioned Axum, a few storefronts south at 1934 9th Street, NW. I thought it was worth mentioning that the space was recently completely renovated. It’s looking really good.
