“Dear PoPville,

I am looking for some guidance and help. I never realized I lived in an apartment with thin walls but now that everyone is home all day, it’s a reality I can’t escape.

My neighbors, a young couple, fight constantly. Not just the normal bickering that we all do with our significant others from time to time but full blown screaming, cursing, stomping matches. It’s daily. It’s hourly even. They both sound irate and they let each other know they are and it seems anything can set one off (more…)

Update: On twitter Victor (and others) report: “They’re in line to get some food help from the Spanish Catholic Charities”

“Dear PoPville,

A friend sent me this pic of what looks like a strike? (No social distancing for sure) in front of Park Monroe on 16th NW and Monroe. Does anyone know. Perhaps dc rent strike?”

I thought we’d concluded our gym talk but after yesterday’s Washington Sports Club talk folks want to talk about Vida too. So here we are – thanks to Paul for sending the latest from Vida:

“To our VIDA Fitness Members,

Every day we are experiencing an unprecedented volume of twists & turns as our nation comes to grasp with the coronavirus pandemic. It’s vital that I continue to keep you abreast of what we are doing and provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date information.

In my original letter dated March 15th, I wrote to inform you that we voluntarily closed all VIDA locations from March 16th to March 31st. A few days after we voluntarily closed, Mayor Bowser mandated that all health clubs must remain closed through April 24th. Yesterday, the Mayor issued a Stay At Home Order. We are also dialed-in to the many briefings from Governor Northam and Governor Hogan. We expect things will continue to progress and find it unlikely that we’ll receive approval to reopen our doors before the end of May. (more…)

Lots of folks have been asking how they can help out hospital workers – here’s a great, delicious way from Wiseguy’s GoFundMe:

“Wiseguy Pizza x Altani for Healthcare Workers

Making food is how we show our love, and we’ve fought this pandemic the best way we know how to–by helping to feed the people on the front lines. We were able to donate 101 18” pizzas (feeding 400+ people), 800 masks, and 7400 gloves in a single day to 6 area hospitals as well as other essential workers and those in need.

Then the calls started to roll into our store from people who wanted to help do the same. So we’re making a formal ask for you to contribute to helping us keep area healthcare workers fed and provided with a much-needed bit of cheer.

OUR PLAN (more…)

Lots of folks have been asking about street sweeping since the initial suspension has expired. DPW reassures us that the suspension has been extended until April 27th. And for emergency workers who have to drive DPW says: “Suspending all enforcement but safety hazards. Blocked crosswalks, hydrants, etc.”

Should the public health emergency extend beyond April 27th – you can expect these extensions to follow as well.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“he District released coronavirus (COVID-19) testing results that occurred on Monday, March 30, for first responders. The testing yielded:

· 5 additional cases among Fire Emergency Medical Services (FEMS) members
· 4 additional cases among Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) members

The new testing brings FEMS’ total cases to 19, and MPD’s total cases to 13, as of this evening.

As Mayor Bowser announced today in her press briefing, beginning on April 1, 2020, the District will be report daily and comprehensive COVID-19 data by approximately 10:00 a.m. each morning. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

RCN is expanding into our neighborhood in DC and has offered us certain “courtesy services” for a utility easement to run power from our house to the street. Have any other readers dealt with a similar situation? We’d love to have internet/cable options other than Comcast but want to make sure we’re making a good long term decision.

Side note: Earlier this morning Caroline wrote: “Xfinity internet outage near 14th and W… anyone else experiencing this?” Others noted Bloomingdale was affected too. How has everyone’s internet been running the last couple weeks? Notice any changes?
