“Dear PoPville,

Last night I got this email from Safeway about 1 person per 150 sq feet. I went to Safeway this morning and there were people counting people entering. When I asked what the limit would be they said that they couldn’t disclose (?) it seems like if you could estimate the store size you could do it though.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

In light of the Mayor’s recent announcement that all shoppers at grocery stores in D.C. must wear masks, what is the best way to get a face mask? Ordering one online appears to take weeks. Are there any local shops I can buy one from? Are we at the point now where I just need to DYI one from some clothing at home?”

Ed. Note: We’ve spoke of some options here but if anyone has learned of others please let us know in the comments of this post, thanks.

Also if anyone buys or does some particularly creative ones at home please send me a photo to [email protected]

“Dear PoPville,

Looking for advice on pot smoke from my neighbor’s rowhouse getting into mine. My kids and I are obviously home and so are the neighbors. I mentioned to them that I really smell their pot, and while they were polite, they basically stated they planned to smoke at home everyday while they, too, are at home. It’s their way of coping. They asked it it’s better if they smoke outside, but that comes in our house too. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I live in a U-shaped apartment complex where, if I look out my window, I have some great views directly into my neighbors apartments. Now that everyone is working from home, some of my neighbors have taken an interest in my cat, Pico, and we’ve been communicating about her through signs posted in our windows.” (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that her Administration has launched a new District Economic Recovery Team (DERT) to proactively plan, strategize, and coordinate the economic recovery from the impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

“We are all in this together, we will get through it together, and when we get to the other side, we will recover,” said Mayor Bowser. “Starting now, this team will ensure that we are pursuing every local and federal program, leveraging data and resources, and engaging with our business community to recover and bring prosperity back to our residents and businesses.”

The DERT is a cross-agency team led by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) that will also engage with non-governmental partners to support businesses, employers, workers, and housing needs. The goals of the DERT are to prepare the District to effectively deploy federal funds; coordinate agency efforts to accelerate, adjust, and create local programs as coronavirus containment measures such as social distancing requirements are eventually relaxed; and make and implement long-term plans to restart the District’s social and economic spheres, informed by the insights of other jurisdictions, economists, and practitioners. The DERT will coordinate with the recovery efforts of the District’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. (more…)
